I'm bored at work but I got to thinking about this
Who would fair better in a hypothetical fight between guys jumping 4 weight classes to fight that champ... I only ask because I think the size desparity would be more apparent and detrimetal for the lighter weight guy because of overall body mass... So here is an example
Would Israel Vasquez fair better entering the ring at 122lbs to face Kelly Pavlik at 160lbs
Or would Kelly Pavlik fair better entering the ring at 160lbs to fight Wlad Klitschko at over 200lbs
or would they both get equally thrashed at the same rate;D
These are hypothetical only its more or less the body mass desparity I'm interested in getting opinions on
Re: I'm bored at work but I got to thinking about this
I think that some of the fast and strong middleweight/supermiddles would have a shot against some of the heavyweights eg. Shannon Briggs, John Ruiz, Nikolay Valuev.
Pacquiao did pretty good moving (growing) from bantam to junior lightweight, but he has no business tussling with welterweights.
Re: I'm bored at work but I got to thinking about this
obviously the weight on a proportioned athlete would have to do alot with his height as well..
Take a guy like Vasquez is 5'4 122lbs then Pavlik who is 6'2 1/2 160lbs
Klitschko is 6'6 1/2 almost 240lbs
Again I think the 40lbs Vasquez is giving up is more detrimetal to the almost 80lbs that Pavlik would be giving up.. Only because of the overall mass of both guys as well as the punch resistant
Re: I'm bored at work but I got to thinking about this
I think Pavlik moving up to fight Klit would be a better showing although both would be massacre's Kelly's height and reach are a lot closer to Wlad's than Izzy to Kelly's.
Re: I'm bored at work but I got to thinking about this
Think both would get KO'ed, may be able to run for a few rounds but once they get pinned in a corner that will be all she wrote, but as said there will be other heavyweights and other middleweights they may do a little better against but that is a massive disadvantage

Well I agree both would get slaughtered and it wouldnt be close but I think Izzy would probably be decapitated and smashed to pieces, where as Pavlik would probably be able to hang in there a little longer before succumbing to the size disadvantage... Its amazing how that 40lbs effects everything so dramatically...
Just like most including myself would favor a Marciano at 185lbs would beat a Wlad Klitschko at 240lbs despite giving up 55 lbs
But Izzy dosent stand a snowball chance in hell only giving up 40lbs to Pavlik

It's not just weight though, reach is a huge part as well, and the deficit Pavlik has to Wlad is nowhere near what Izzy has to Kelly.

True as like I stated earlier height would have a big difference and the naturally bigger reach...
Thats the thing when you are weighing at 120 lbs your body density heigh weight become a dramatic desparity compared to what you would consider at a higher weight

Nice to see you earning your money
Re: I'm bored at work but I got to thinking about this
Well if you put a gun to my head and asked me who could go up 40 pounds to beat another titleholder (not sure how I'd get myself into that situation but still) I'd go with Ivan Calderon against Paulie Malignaggi. 108 to 147, 39 pounds either way. Not sure if this is really relevant, I just like being negative about Malignaggi.
Re: I'm bored at work but I got to thinking about this
This just highlights how absurd the fight is, doesn't it?
I like what OumaFan said about Calderon and Paulie.
Re: I'm bored at work but I got to thinking about this
Actually I don't know why I was thinking Paulie was at 147, so its only 32 pounds. Either way Paulie's chances are slight.
