Would Mayweather win on points or would Robinson win by knockout?
Robinson being the natural Welterweight and where his prime was then I think he beats the smaller Floyd on points.
Floyd has the defensive skills to stop him being knocked-out but Robinson had great offensive skills and was quick.
Styles make fights and Floyds style gives him a great chance.
Back then defense wasn't as polished as today, most fighters opting for raw aggression and brute force (accompanied by great fitness.)
SRR would never have seen the likes of Floyd.
Ray Robinson
I actually have always wanted to see how Floyd Mayweather Jr would do against great defensive fighters like Pernell Whitaker, Wilfredo Benitez, Marlon Starling, etc.
Ahhh...Pernell Whitaker.... now that's a fight I'd love to see. Pernell isnt a good puncher at all imho but defense is the absolute best I've ever seen. Floyd has incredible defense (probably not as good as Whitaker) but is a far better puncher. I'd LOVE to see that fight. They need more computer-simulation fights. Then again its just the computer speculation.... they need a time machine b/c I really don't know what would happen with that fight.
Pernell Whitaker actually didn't have bad punching power at all, the reason why you didn't see more KO's from Pernell Whitaker. Was because he mostly boxed on that back foot, and its hard to get full power into your shots while being on the back foot.
But i can assure you he had underrated power he put away Diosbelys Hurtado, in brutal fashion you should check that out. He also stunned Julio Cesar Chavez a few times, he also put down the very tough Rafael Pineda with a body shot. Also put away Jake Rodriuez with body shots a man who went the distance with Felix Trinidad.
I think Whitaker had a better arsenal was more capable offensively then Mayweather at least in their welterweight days. Whitaker was a combination puncher who fought at all distances (like Mayweather) and he had a great jab which for the past few years Floyd hasn't really had in his big fights. Back at 135 and especially 130 Mayweather had one of the better jabs in the whole sport.
Floyd's the KING
