My take on the Amir Khan SKY PPV robbery!
(I appreciate there are already a couple of threads on this topic but I think it would be worthwhile to show anyone in the boxing business who visits this site just how pissed off the fans are regarding the matter).
Frank Warren and Sky Sports are a disgrace for making fans pay £15 to watch this fight! I was shocked and saddened when I saw the adverts in the week promoting this PPV!!
Boxing has been ruined for me this year with the rise of Setanta and so many homegrown fighters being shown on their subscription channel. Who would've thought I'd be wishing for the days when fights were shown on Sky and the odd superfight being PPV to be back again (I always used to pine for the days of ITV covered boxing to be back again). I resented parting with my hard earned £15 back then but I did because it would be an unmissable fight between two stars of the sport. However in 2008 you're paying for your TV Licence > Sky Subscription > Setanta subscription (personally I don't out of principle and not affording it) and finally Sky PPV before you can watch a bog standard fight!!! All this to watch a fighter who hasn't yet proven he's the best fighter at his weight in England (Kevin Mitchell, John Murray) yet alone Europe or the world!!
I'm tamping about this because the sport I love I'm resorted to scouring youtube for shitty clips as opposed to a night in with my pals and some beers.
Unless David Haye is seen to challenge for a world title against a top heavyweight after Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe retire I can't see me following boxing as closely as I have done in the past :(
FUCK WARREN AND FUCK SKY SPORTS! Shame on you.
Re: My take on the Amir Khan SKY PPV robbery!
This problem is so easy to fix......don't agree don't pay, we can rant rave and bitch all we want but as long as people buy frank warren and all the others are gonna sell. Shit if he could get ppv cash from a amir khan/ Mr. T match up he would, nothing wrong with that. Anyone else woud do the same. I remember one time don king said he doesn't even watch the fights most of the time he only cares that we do, and the numbers are saying we are....at least enough to keep them living fat.

What is the total on all of that, Simasu? Just curious.
My cable bill each month is 156 USD if I've ordered a PPV. That gets me HBO, Showtime, a movie channel called Stars, and a about a hundred other channels. And whatver PPV fight I watched.

The problem with that is that Mr AverageJoe who is just a casual fan will buy it as they'll believe all the shite that Warren sprouts, although if all hardcore fans boycotted it and the fight itself then mabe he'd get the message

In the UK everybody has to pay for a TV license, (this funds the BBC which has no adverts). This works at approx $24 per month.
Add to that a Sky subscription (our equivalent to cable) - with Movies and sports that's approx $95 per month. Now we have an additional Sports channel called Setanta which has bought the rights to most of the boxing - they charge $20 per month.
Add to all that a PPV event which is approx $30 you have a total of approx $170
Re: My take on the Amir Khan SKY PPV robbery!
I agree with the above sentiment of voting with your wallet.
Khan doesn't have a strong fanbase and I think they'll find out just how strong this Saturday. That said, I think the logic is probably along the lines of 'if only a percentage of the terrestrial audience tunes in then it's still worthwhile'.
I've read something elsewhere today where Frank is bleating that it had to go PPV in order to give Amir the level of purse he was looking for...
Re: My take on the Amir Khan SKY PPV robbery!
Typical Warren Amir shouldn't be looking for a massive purse yet anyway and Warren is probably just bullshittingabout that. The fact is he can earn more money from sky because setanta don't have PPV's so Amir next few fights that should be as friday night free fights will all be PPV:mad:
