R.I.P. The GREAT Joey Giardello'
Sad to read this...
Joey Giardello passes
Former middleweight champion Joey Giardello passed away today a little after noon at the age of 78 in Cherry Hill, NJ. "He was the greatest middleweight ever to come out of Philly and one of the few white fighters of his era who fought every tough black guy out there," said Hall of Fame Philadelphia promoter J Russell Peltz. Funeral arrangements are pending.
----------
What a treat he was to watch I've got a few fights. The one vs. Emile, Dick Tiger and Carter. I've said it in some Middleweight threads or related to that. If not for some of the more recognized names of his era like Dick Tiger, Gene Fullmer, Emile Griffith Joey would be talked about more...
The 1st man to defeat the grea Dick Tiger, he also beat SRR, Benton & Rubin Carter to name a few...
May he RIP the great Joey Giardello.

Goodbye to a Philly fighter:puncher:
Re: R.I.P. The GREAT Joey Giardello'
I just read that a few days ago Attilio "Rocky" Castellani also passed...
Damn!!! :(
Castellani was a top fighter, and a top contender for many years. He fought Giardello among many others SRR, Kid Gavilan, Billy Graham, Gil Turner, Walter Cartier think he also fought Fullmer. I remember he he gave SRR fits and drops SRR. Don't think he beat many of them but he was a fighter.
Crazy that they both passed. :(
May they both RIP.

Re: R.I.P. The GREAT Joey Giardello'
He was a terrific fighter who fought the best of his era, beating many of them and competitive with them all. I was happy that Teddy Atlas and Brian Kenny set the record straight that despite what was said in the movie "The Hurricane", Carter was not robbed as Giardello outboxed him down the stretch. RIP Joey Giardello

Re: R.I.P. The GREAT Joey Giardello'
I remember him in the Hurricane film and man that was BS what they tried to make out and they had me fooled until i actually got to see the fight and there was no robbery decision he boxed beautifully and clearly won a decision RIP to Joey even though i've only seen one of his fights he looked like a great fighter and the people behind the Hurricane film should be ashamed of themselves making it out to be a racist decision and discrediting this great fighter and to be honest not trying to go off topic here but the whole Hurricane film was a load of BS and lies.
