Am I the only person excited about Dawson/Tarver?
I missed the announcement earlier this week, and I just read it on ESPN. I've been wanting to see this fight for a while and I glad it's going to actually happen. I'm a pretty big Chad Dawson fan, but I'm also one of the few people who likes Antonio Tarver. Tarver looked very good against Woods and he's got much less milage on him than most 39 year old fighters.
Dawson will have the handspeed advantage and throws great combos, but he he is hittable. Tarver is great counter puncher and he was able to deal with Roy Jones superior handspeed. I hate to say it, because I'd like to see a changing of the guard at LHW, but Dawson is might be taylor-made for Tarver if shows up as prepared as he was against Clinton Woods.
Re: Am I the only person excited about Dawson/Tarver?
Yeah for me this is the fight to determine the REAL No.1 at Light Heavyweight.
Although i would like to see The winner face RJJ/ Calazaghe.

believe me there are very few people interested in this fight although i would love to see dawson kick his ass for 12 rounds i do think it will be boring cause of tarver because he is old slow and doesnt have that will anymore he just has a mouth and he cant do that one punch crap on dawson like he did roy

As I recall he one the third fight pretty convincingly and that fight when the distance. His will looked pretty good last time out when he wasn't too old or two slow to thoroughly beat Clinton Woods. Dawson struggle with Johnson and got rocked by him at least once. Oh, and Dawson has been dropped by Adamek and Harding.
This fight will be far from boring.
Re: Am I the only person excited about Dawson/Tarver?
Chad Dawson is one of my favorites at the moment he reminds me of Herol Graham and Antonio Tarver seems to have got some form back after good win against Clinton Woods this will decide the number 1 Light Heavyweight so yes im very excited about this fight and how about the winner getting a shot at Jones vs Calzaghe winner ? then maybe we could see Tarver vs Jones 4 ;)

I'd rather see Calzaghe/Dawson, not that Joe would ever take that fight.
Re: Am I the only person excited about Dawson/Tarver?
yea chad wont be boring he will be exciting to watch but tarver hell no the woods fight i actually fell asleep on. the dawson fight was way better even though he got rocked and didnt fall that lets me know he can take a punch cause glen knocked roy out so that says alot about chad. and im going for chad on the split decision
Re: Am I the only person excited about Dawson/Tarver?
I WANT to see Chad win. He's an exciting young fighter from my home state, and on top of it, he's good guy. I would like to see him win a clear, UD, with Tarver fighting a good fight and making it close. Still, and I can't get it out of my head that this is a bad matchup for Dawson. Tarver can pick his spots, and take advantage of Dawson's defensive weaknesses. If Dawson had a proven great chin, I would highly favor Dawson, but that chin is the X-factor. It's going to be Dawson on points or Tarver by KO.

Rozzy,
Been a BCD fan since his early in his career. I think it was from his 13th pro fight and on. I met BCD at JLC-Corrales I, while I went to buy a drink the kid was there taking pics. and giving away little flyers with him on it. He signed one for me and unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me. But one thing I should mention is what he told me. He said:
"I'm gonna be a champ one day you'll see. Be on the look out for me I'm coming"
Truth is I believed him and been a fan since then. The kids well spoken and very smart in the ring. It's bee a long way coming from the days where people were saying he had a glass chin and if fighters like Miller and Harding then he'd never be world class.
The day he became champ was glorious and a vindication to all the shit talking that was done.
I'm still not certain how Mustafa will fit in there as but I think he did well with him for the Glen fight. Would have really liked for Floyd Sr. to stay with him but oh! well.
I've been waiting for BCD-Tarver since BCD beat Adamek I was hoping the fight would take time to materialize since I felt BCD still needed time to work on somethings. Now it's been about a year so it's now or never.
Really hyped up for it and it just feels good to have seen the kid grow and develope from prospect to contender to title holder.
Come oooooon BCD!!!!!
Re: Am I the only person excited about Dawson/Tarver?
I really don't know how to look at this one.
On the one hand I think Tarver's old, Dawson's young and extremely athletic, Tarver could really look his age here and get handled.
On the other hand I could see Tarver outsmarting him a bit, maybe getting into his head and checking Dawson's chin which I'm still not totally sure about except for the fact that I'm sure its not rock solid.
Will have to make a pick sometime. I guess I'm leaning towards Dawson.
