Why taking a knee is so unpopular?....
I mean I don't know if it just some Mexican boxing fans (I could be wrong) but I read a lot of people criticizing when a boxer takes a knee.
For example take last Saturday if Casamayor would have take a knee he might have ended the round taking a time to recover instead of punching crazy while hurt. Cotto vs Margarito, if Cotto wouldn't take a knee he might had got seriously hurt.
Do boxers hesitate to take a knee knowing that is necessary at times but since is unpopular they decide not to do it?
What is your take on this?

Nothing wrong with taking a knee i've seen few Amateurs live do it i've seen one of the guys that goes to my gym do it and he comeback to win the fight i personally think its very smart move and to be honest more fighters should do when there dazed or seriously hurt but i suppose its hard to think like that when you've got a rain of punches coming your way or some boxers just have such a big ego that they won't do either way i think more fighters should do it if i remember rightly didn't Serguei Lyakhovich go down on one knee against Lamon Brewster ?

IT could be their ego but the fact that some fans hate it might makes them think twice before doing it

I agree ICB I also think its good to take the knee to get your bearings. But in the heat of the moment I think a lot of fighters look for that opportunity to counter while their opponent is attacking or they don't want to show how hurt they really are...
Re: Why taking a knee is so unpopular?....
Many boxers are also not aware how much time left in a round where taking a knee in the dying seconds of round could spell victory or defeat...
Re: Why taking a knee is so unpopular?....
I think when a fighter takes a knee after being seriously hurt it shows a great deal of intelligence and composure.
Many times it is the difference between a KD and a KO. I see nothing wrong with it at all, and I have a hard time understanding why someone would say otherwise.
Re: Why taking a knee is so unpopular?....
most probably dont want there pride hurt
Re: Why taking a knee is so unpopular?....
I don't really get the impression it is unpopular among fans.. Pretty silly if people do criticize it. But one thing I'm fairly sure of is that the reason it isn't more commonly used among fighters would have nothing to do with the fans perception. Can you honestly see a fighter being hurt but refusing to take a knee on the basis it's unpopular? Maybe they are just to stubborn to give the round away knowingly? I'd say it probably comes down to the fighters mentality somewhat. Some boxers don't know how to lose rounds or feel out etc, they are always pressing to win every excange. It would be logical that fighters with this mentality would be more hesistant to take a knee, wheras fighters who are willing to pace themselves and fight a more calculated fight would be less reluctant? Of course there have been some good points raised so far in that they don't know how long is left in the round and often guys will leave themselves most vulnerable when trying to finish an opponent. Those are both huge reasons to.

Yea and also with that; by taking a knee when your opponent is getting wild trying to finish you, you are giving him the same chance to breathe and think things out as you get. It becomes a big judgement call whether you will be able to recuperate enough in those 10 seconds and defend yourself more intelligently , when your opponent can measure a better attack in that same time you are trying to recover.
Re: Why taking a knee is so unpopular?....
It's unpopular since majority of the boxers taking a knee in a fight ended up losing that fight...
Not many were smart enough to fully take advantage of a "knee" breather... The one that remains standing almost always has the upperhand...
Many just consider taking a knee a losing effort...

Re: Why taking a knee is so unpopular?....
Its a funny one, I never did it, thats why Ive been chinned a few times. Whether its because there vision goes and need time probably to clear. Ive been on my arse a few times, thinking if I get up this cunt will Kill me. But I still got up ;D. Some time winning , sometimes finnishing back on my arse
Re: Why taking a knee is so unpopular?....
Ive talked to alot of fighters about this, ever forget,it happened to me.
Its happening so fast you just dont remember that its on your option list.
Re: Why taking a knee is so unpopular?....
i think most boxing fans only see the warrior side of boxing and just want to watch a scrap, :-\
Re: Why taking a knee is so unpopular?....
If a fighter is hurt it's a fantastic idea to take a knee. The problem is you don't train to do it. It's counter-intuitive to what you put weeks in the gym for. To willingly give away a round so you can come back to win the fight doesn't make sense on the surface. But when a guy is beating you like you forgot to make dinner it makes all the sense in the world. You need to make him stop and recover.

I know is crazy but I read here and there a lot of fans criticizing when a fighter takes a knee. Like someone said here is a smart thing to do.
I also remember corley vs Cotto. he (corley) took a smart knee and the moron stopped the fight.
For you all, the thread is a bout a fan perspective when a boxer takes a knee.
