Campbell challenges Marquez!
Undisputed lightweight king Nate Campbell released the following exclusive statement to FightNews regarding his challenge to Juan Manuel Marquez:
"When I got home to Jacksonville today and checked my email, I had hundreds of emails from fans asking me to call out Marquez, after the nice job he did on Casamayor. I don't really have much faith in this whole ‘calling out’ business, because I tried that with Casamayor, and with Pacquiao, and it got me nowhere. But if Juan Manual is interested in fighting me, I'm all for it. My position all along has been that I have an IBF mandatory (#1 ranked Ali Funeka) to take care of, but I'm sure for a fight of this magnitude something could be worked out with the Funeka kid and the IBF for him to step aside for one fight to ......the rest at fightnews.com

Some folks think I'm the best lightweight in the world, and some folks think that honor belongs to Marquez. Well no matter which way you have it, me and him are #1 and #2 in the division, and a fight between us clears it up once and for all as to who is the baddest man at 135. I'm ready to roll right now. Marquez just went 11 rounds, but he didn’t get seriously dinged up or anything so why not make this the co-feature to Oscar-Pacquiao on Dec 6th? He should be able to go again in two (with) and a half months no problem. The cynical side of me says no way this happens, that the in-house fight between Marquez and Diaz will get made instead. But I still wanted to put this statement out to let everyone know that I'm ready, willing, and more than able to send Marquez back down to 130, if the powers that be will just get out of the way and let it happen."

I totally agree... plus a possible Peñalosa vs. Mares fight, experience vs. youth.... It will be a tremendous fight card...
I hope JMM will accept this challenge since it will be a step closer to his dream 3rd fight with PAC... Fighting on the same night with PAC on the same card...

Respect to Nate Campbell he spoke like a true sportmans there and didn't bad mouth JMM. i for certain want the 135 division sorted out before Juan Manuel Marquez decides to move up, so this match up is a must IMO.........
Abner Mares vs Gerry Penalosa ? wow what a fight that will be i like Abner Mares alot and i have been following him for about quite awhile. I love his counter punching and his lazer straight punches he will be for certain be top 10 P4P fighter.
Re: How can you not like this guy...
You gotta love Nate... :appl: that's class BUT come on he wants JMM in 2 months?
No way man... JMM just fought and there is no way he can fight by Dec. he just went 11 good rounds with Casa.
I'm sure if the money is right it will happen but no way should it happen in Dec.
Re: How can you not like this guy...
Campbell is so Old School and so to the point, you have to like him.
He says it like it is, pulls no punches in or out of the ring and is a true ambassador of all what is good about this game IMO.
I find it great that even after the disappointment of the weekend, he still spent time to reach out to the fans and try to give more. Awesome guy.
Re: How can you not like this guy...
I heard Marquez was thinking about a fight with Juan Diaz as well. Either Campbell or Diaz, Marquez is not playing around with his level of competition.
I said it from the beginning, the Lightweight division is going to rule boxing...
Re: How can you not like this guy...
Juan Diaz is far far more likely for Marquez.
Re: How can you not like this guy...
it would be amazing if marquez and campbell were on the undercard of pac and de la hoya but it would be too good to be true. campbells a true warrior, prepared to take on anyone, just like marquez.
Re: How can you not like this guy...
....i like cambell more and more all the time, the guy just simply wants to fight. Shame shame on you guzman..the only way you could dissappoint me more is to start calling out floyd along with the rest.
Re: How can you not like this guy...
Campbell/Marquez should be the headliner of it's own event if it happens.
Give Marquez time to recover from his war against Casa too. Even though he performed well, he ate a lot of Casa's hard counters.
I agree big time on the opinion of Campbell though, he is old school, he acts like a fighter should act, he goes for the fights a fighter should go for and he is great commentator to boot.

Yeah I love Cambell. In a boxing fan way, of course.
I'll root for him any day.
