Chavez Jr., Vanda set for boxing rematch in Vegas
A disputed decision win for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. that led to a fans tossing debris in his native Mexico has prompted a rematch with Matt Vanda on Nov. 1 in Las Vegas.
Chavez (37-0-1, 29 KOs) seeks to redeem himself against Vanda (38-7, 21 KOs) at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in a fight announced Monday.
Also on the pay-per-view card will be a world title bout between IBF flyweight king Nonito Donaire and South Africa’s Moruti Nthalane.
In July, Chavez tired badly in a 10-round fight with Vanda in Hermosillo, Mexico. Chavez was favored by four points on one judge’s card, while another favored Vanda by one point and a third judge gave all 10 rounds to Chavez.
Fans tossed debris at Chavez, the judges and anyone nearby. Even Chavez disagreed with the third judge.
“I felt I won the fight, but it was close,” said Chavez, the son of former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez.
“I don’t think I won the fight, but I don’t think I lost,” Vanda said. “At worst it was a draw

Should be a good matchup, im picking jr. seeing as he did good on his previous two match set with molina.

It's ridiculous that such a high profile fighter as Chavez Jr is with his own PPV shows is even needing to have a rematch with a near tomato can like Vanda.
Considering the criticism Amir Khan gets I'm baffled by the support for Chavez Jr who clearly has barely 10% of the talent of his father.
As soon as he steps up to even top domestic level he's getting creamed. He's from the same cloth as Tye Fields and Roman Greenberg and is building his record on complete nobodies.

An amateur facing an amateur is quite different than an amateur (which Chavez Jr. is technically) facing a pro who already had in average more than 100 fights as an amateur plus olympic exposure or something. Of course we want to see Chavez Jr. fight for a belt already. If his name was not J.C. Chavez Jr., we wouldn't really care.
Same thing happened with J.C. Chavez. Straight to the pros and now a hall of famer after all his well deserved accomplishments.

Im pretty sure SR fought amateur. JR is closing on 40 fights i think it's enough experience. I would understand the first 20 but after that.... I mean even the great mayweather did not get as much pro fights as young JR has....
Oh yeah one last thing when Jr put the gloves he did not go straight pro... I recall him fighting paez jr when they were about 12 years old :P

Mayweather had his amateur career with about 100 fights. Won the national golden gloves three times, olympics exposure, etc. Chavez Jr. put those gloves on and straight to the pros, besides that exhibtion children match against Paez Jr. when they were kids but that was it.

I wish he was ready on his next fight but I still see areas where he could improve. As for punching power, no worries but maybe his defense needs to be worked on. Let's see how he does in the rematch, let's see if he worked on the defense that looked rusty on his last fight.
If you think he will get destroyed if he faces any big name in his prime then wouldn't it take a couple more fights? Keep in mind the whole thing about him having no amateur, golden glove, olympic, etc. experience. He's an amateur who's fighting pros pretty much. Guys who double/triple in experience compared to him.

I kind of agree with you but it only highlights even more the absurdity of him being a PPV star imo.
At least Khan had an amatuer pedigree and won an Olympic medal, Chavez has done nothing whatsoever as either an amatuer or pro and yet has headlined maybe 3 PPV shows now.
It's ridiculous especially when you consider the level of opposition he has fought, and gone life and death with.
In most of his recent 'step up' fights he has struggled and looked uncomfortable. I know he hasn't had the most amatuer schooling but that carries no weight regarding his status as a pro imo.
It maybe a decent excuse as to why he'll never be anything but let's be clear on this, he will never be anything.
At least Khan has talent and boxing ability and can compete with anyone if he can protect his frail chin. Chavez simply cannot box and the highest level. Nothing he can do about that I'm afraid, maybe he started too late but either way he's not winning any world titles, now or in the future.

He has that level of opposition for the same reasons that have been mentioned already. He is not the typical boxer who had amateur exposure which normally consists of more than 120 fights. No golden glove exposure, no jr. olympic exposure, no olympic exposure, etc. Pretty much just wore those gloves and up to the ring he went. Lots of people seem to forget that. See it this way, it’s a guy with about 30 fights facing guys with more than 140 fights experience (add their amateur fights plus all other tournaments plus pro fights).

I dont buy it. I seen a fight in which Chavez Jr was fighting Paez jr. and Chavez had some skills and if that was not an amatuer fight, I don't what was.
Anyway, I am not too big on Chavez jr but his first fight with Vanda was pretty entertaining, I agree with Bilbo that Vanda is a tomato but it was funny to watch these two tomato cans get it on, I swear it was like watching two heavy weights that night as they tired and looked slow as turtles, even so, it was a fun fight to watch, I will toon in to catch the rematch and see if Chavez Jr can redeem himself :D What was funnier than anything else, was when Chavez Jr's entourage jumped into the crowd of people and began hitting people ;D this was not shown on tv but I caught it a few nights later on a Mexican website. Chavez Sr was going crazy ;D

Uuuuuuuh...10/11 year old exhibition match? I repeat, its like an amateur with 30+ fights fighting guys with more than 130 fights under their belt and in the pros. I am sure people cricticized JC Chavez as well but look at all his accomplishments now. What if Jr. fights his first championship match when he has 50 fights and after that kicks ass just like Sr.?

Let's face it he is young and fragile. As much as I, like the rest of the people on this site, want to see him pour his guts out on the table with a high profile boxer, it's not gonna happen anytime soon. He si building himself up. You gotta remember after he goes for a title shot, he has got to defend it. How long before some lucky left hook nobody knocks his block off.
Having said that.. I think he is going to do well in the future. He has a hell of a left hook, and a pretty good chin from what I have seen.

That's what I hopefully expect. Boo hoo if he starts fighting champions and quality ranked opposition when he reaches 50 fights. What matters is that he kicks ass before and after that just like Sr. did and accomplished throughout his career.
