Legendary actor Paul Newman dies at age 83

Paul Newman, the legendary actor whose steely-blue eyes, good-humored charm and advocacy of worthy causes made him one of the most renowned figures in American arts, has died, his spokeswoman told CNN today. Newman was 83. He died of cancer Friday at his home in Westport, Connecticut, said spokeswoman Marni Tomljanovic.

Man, I loved Paul Newman!! He grew up not far from where I live, and is one of my all time favorite actors.

Not only was he a great actor, he was a great human being! It is amazing how much this man gave to those less fortunate. Here is a statement from his foundation, if you want to read about some of the great things he has done.

This is something that he said a long time ago in an interview, and I think it pretty much sums up who he was.

"I'd like to be remembered as a guy who tried — tried to be part of his times, tried to help people communicate with one another, tried to find some decency in his own life, tried to extend himself as a human being. Someone who isn't complacent, who doesn't cop out."
