Gatti Comeback Rumored...
Gatti on comeback rumors!
October 6, 2008
By Dave Spencer / Fightnews Canada
With all the recent rumours surrounding former world champion Artutro Gatti and a possible comeback, Fightnews was able to speak to the former champ about his intentions and future plans within the sport. On hand at the Casino de Montreal to catch NABO welterweight champion Antonin Decarie’s successful performance versus Hector Munoz, the ‘Human Highlight Reel’ who now calls Montreal home was able to shed light on recent stories circulating suggesting that a return to the ring may be imminent.
“I don’t think it is ever going to happen. Me and my wife would have big fights first before I could ever fight in the ring. I’d be a loser already, so I don’t think it is going to happen.”
Gatti was honest and open enough to admit that while a comeback isn’t likely, one year removed from his last fight, a knockout loss at the hands of Alfonso Gomez, the desire is still as strong as ever. “It’s always in heart, wanting to fight, as much as I want to, I don’t think it is ever going to go away. I figure I can still do it, but I think all fighters feel that they can still do it. A lot of very nice people are being very honest with me, saying, ‘You look good, you’re not hurt, why come back?’ When I look at it like that, I think maybe they’re right. Right now I’m enjoying my little boy (newborn Arturo Junior), with him coming into my life, it would make it very hard to leave and to train.”
With Gatti who now weighs 175 pounds, the self doubt as to what might happen should he come back, is fueling his decision not to. “When a fighter thinks what might happen to him in the ring, that means the game is over. I never thought that in my head before, what might happen to me in the ring?”
Not one to simply walk away, Gatti is now tempting fate as he trains to keep fit. “Right now I’m just training in a health club, maybe next month I’ll starting hitting the bag again, but that’s a problem; if I walk into a boxing gym again, that could ruin everything. It’s like a drug, it’s something I love doing. People assume that I need money, it’s not money. Somebody who loves the sport doesn’t fight for money; they do it because they enjoy it, because they love it.”

Agreed, For Gatti to make a comeback would be riducolous. If he misses the sport train young fighters, promote, even commentate, but don't get back in the ring
Re: Gatti Comeback Rumored...
For his sake I hope he don't try to come back.
Re: Gatti Comeback Rumored...
Everyone here knows that Gatti is one of my FAVORITE fighters but c'mon... He couldn't even start to mount an offense against Gomez.
Could he fight regionally? Sure but he's taken enough punishment and his speach has already been affected...
Hang 'em up, champ.

Thats the thing, youve made the money, you have your legacy, there are other ways to stay involved in the sport that dont involve getting your head caved in.
Hopkins could also do with heading that advice

Agreed... 'course BHop is also extemely less likely to get his head caved in then Gatti's catchers mitt he calls a face.
Re: Gatti Comeback Rumored...
He needs to go onto other things imo; and that baby needs a daddy who isn't dribblling all over him instead of the other way around if he gets punched 1 too many times.

You just reminded me of one of my fave Tex Cobb quotes
"I stuck with my game plan, stumbling forward and getting hit in the face"

funny stuff. LOL. but Gatti is way over his head if he thinks hes gonna pull a sugar ray leonard
Re: Gatti Comeback Rumored...
I think he already put to rest these rumor, he said he doesn't want to go through the fight with his wife to get her ok. She obviously has his best interests in mind.
Re: Gatti Comeback Rumored...
Gatti is actually one of the more successful of POB's shitty stable of fighters. ;D
Just kidding POB. But do you think we could have a Manfredo drugged vs. Gatti? That seems fair.

.....:-X Sad but true,The man needs to be watched out for,It's not there anymore Arturo, walk away with your head up and faculties intact!!
Re: Gatti Comeback Rumored...
Gatti coming back is about as pointless as Manfredo fighting on. Idiots will still talk and watch them, but no one can work out why.
