I feel sorry now for TALL PAUL WILLIAMS
Since Bernard showed what can beat Pavlik, I truly dont think anyone in 147, 154 or 160 will want to fight Tall Paul. Pavlik was their last hope but Bernard showed quick hands, angles and footwork beats him. Everything Tall Paul got. Margo is hiding, 154 is OK and the best at 160 cant beat him. It just seems Tall Paul is in an awkward spot right now. One of the best fighters out but cant get that one shot. Is he playing too many weight classes to earn a spot or is he the most avoided fighter out. Pavlik cant beat him from what I see. Tall Paul is no Bernard but he has some of the attributes that Bernard beat Pavlik with. I was ranked as high as 136 in the world so I do have some Knowledge of the game. Please give me your pick, WHO BEATS TALL PAUL in 147, 154 or 160 and why. P.S- I Know any body can get beat on any given day. Quintana showed that. Phillips is up next.
Re: I feel sorry now for TALL PAUL WILLIAMS
i feel sorry for him 2. its very hard for paul to get a fight anywhere the only fight for him at 147 is tony which might not happen. but he is fighting for a strap against Philips which could do him some good. and i doubt he will be able to challenge any of the champs at 160 for awhile or atleast until he beats a noticeable name there. so yea it looks pretty bad for paul rite now.
Re: I feel sorry now for TALL PAUL WILLIAMS
Id favour Williams in most possible matchups out there actually.. But Phillips deserves a good payday more than he does at this point so it's nice to see that fight made. I think Vernon Forrest vs Williams could be an excellent matchup, would favour Williams but he's never fought anyone remotely as tall and long as Forrest. Margo might be close in height and reach but he certainly doesn't fight like it.

Paul is long and lanky and has less defense than Kelly. Remember styles make fights.
Remember Paul once got schooled by Quintana. Pavlik got schooled by Hopkins. That is a huge disparity.

Right now, I'd still favor Pavlik in a fight with Williams. From what I can see, Williams wouldn't be the ideal fighter to implement the blueprint to beat Pavlik. Is Williams known for fancy footwork? Also, Williams can still make some fights at 147. There was talk of a fight with Mosley and I'm pretty sure I remember Clottey being mentioned as a possible opponent.

Williams-Forrest seemed a logical, interesting fight to me as well, but when I mentioned in one of Dan Rafael's ESPN.com chats he said that it was very unlikely to happen because they have the same manager (Al Haymon).
Re: I feel sorry now for TALL PAUL WILLIAMS
As far as Pavlik goes, I was one of the few who thought had a solid chance even before the Hopkins fight, because I thought his awkward southpaw style would be problematic for a basic one-two puncher. That said, we still don't know what kind of punch Williams can take at 160, and he would get hit some. I'd slightly favor Pavlik, but a points win for Williams would not surprise me at all. At 147 and 154, I don't see anyone beating him. He is better than he was in the first Margarito fight. He's starting sitting down on his punches, and when he does that those lanky arms possess some real pop.

One another thing, I know some will say that Quintana schooled him, so how can I say no one will beat him at 147 or 154. Two reasons: 1) He has started taking advantage of heighth, which he really wasn't doing before. That is why he was able to catch Quintana cold on the chin as he was coming in 2) standing tall and using his heigth, allows him to get more leverage on his punches, which is why he seems to have all of a sudden picked up so much power. Someone with arms as long as his will hit with pop with with the proper technique, which seems to have learned. The Quintana loss was probably the best thing to happen to him.
