I'm referring specifically to his insinuation that Pavlik's losing had a lot to do with Nard weighing 13lbs more than him... because of course, weighing more gives you superior hand speed and footwork.

I rest my case. All you so-called boxing experts don’t know crap. All you guys do is get paid to predict a fight by using the stats you’ve researched. I told everyone Bernard Hopkins was going to school Kelly Pavlik, who is cool with me as a champion. However, Pavlik and a bunch of so-called sports experts learned a hard lesson on Saturday. I have a hard time respecting the opinion of some of these guys who have never laced up before.

There's no reason to not respect the opinion of someone who hasn't laced up gloves. Look at some of the best writers we have, Al Bernstein, Doug Fischer, Thomas Hauser, guys with a very keen technical understanding for what goes on the ring, how many of them have ever fought? I don't buy that for one second Mycheal ;D
As for Iole, he was great at the Review Journal for inside scoops he was better then Rafael imo because he was in Vegas. I don't know if he is still in Vegas, I imagine he is but he does write some off the wall stuff sometimes and I'm not sure he has that technical understanding I was talking about.

if that's a response to my point, they (sports' journalists, journalists in general) make a living playing "arm chair quarterback", whether it be about boxing or politics. More often then not, they critique instead of praise (to the point of not being balanced; they seek negative stories), and shape perception based on their supposed "expert" analysis, which is nothing more than conjecture and guessing. What's missing is earned credentials; experience from "doing" and not from something that equates to being an articulate pedestrian. They are human, they do make mistakes; the difference is, when a boxer or a politician makes a mistake, they make their living off it; so it's only natural that they should get the same unrealistic bashing when they're wrong. This stems from the absurd "authority" they imply when they're dissecting/preaching about someone else's error. I personally don't take them to task when they make a bad prediction-- I similarly often times make these same bad guesses. My point is, when these guys stop being reporters and start being "experts" or commentators and make ridiculous and wrong assertions (ex. the aforementioned article) we, as the boxing public, the concerned, the paying fan, need to bust their ass and tear down this invisible authority they have. We need to make them as vulnerable to the things they write as their subjects are.Quote:
