Olubamiwo debut - Seen a heavyweight recently in this kind of shape??
Hey guys,
One of my best friends here just turned pro under Maloney. Larry Olubamiwo. World class power and have you seen a heavyweight recently in such good shape? Bit nervous of course being his debut but he knocked this dude out by hitting him on his glove! :o;D
He has great dedication and hopefully can move towards a title after getting some more experience.

What do you all think even though it's early days? I'd say he needs to relax and keep his hands up so far when throwing shots. Other than that, great power and great variety of shots thrown to wear this durable journeyman down!
Re: Olubamiwo debut - Seen a heavyweight recently in this kind of shape??
Hes 30 years old, and he fought a guy with 33 loses. You cant really judge anything at all at this very early stage of a career. But a good start can be said. I can see him fighting for the British belt, but at 30 hes not going to be a world champion
Re: Olubamiwo debut - Seen a heavyweight recently in this kind of shape??
In what kind of shape how? If you are basing it on pure muscle mass Shannon Briggs make him look trim
If you base it on his punch out put the "Big Goof" Tye Fields has a 90+ per rd punch output for over 80% of his bouts....
Overall size both Klitschko brothers match that
The guy does seem to like to work though and does throw a variety of shots which is good but he smothers himself horribly and he also throws the same pattern of combos that any experienced HW would pick up on easily'''
Sultan Imbragimov say what you will about the guy would make this kids look silly...
As Tam said he is 30yrs old and still a novice...he might make a few decent undercard bouts but don't look for him to be anywhere near a worl title
Re: Olubamiwo debut - Seen a heavyweight recently in this kind of shape??
I did a thread about Larry last week but nobody was interested i liked the look of him and that was a good debut fight and performance.
Re: Olubamiwo debut - Seen a heavyweight recently in this kind of shape??
I see Daxx has come out of retirement..again..guess it's not just boxers but boxing writers as well who like to that pull that old trick ;)
I appreciate what you're saying and agree that he smothered his work a bit but it's his FIRST fucking fight!
Sultan Ibragimov? You're comparing my boy to a former world champion!? I'm actually surprised you're allowed to inform people about the happenings of boxing if you're making statements like Sultan Ibragimov would make him look silly - Anybody with half a brain cell knows he would at this stage in their respective careers but you don't know what the future will hold.
Would you have banked that Hopkins would be where he is at after his first pro fight? No, so don't come in here with your holier than thou attitude unless you're some kind of boxing mystic meg which you certainly ain't (aren't you the guy that said Baldomir would 'steamroll' Floyd Mayweather before they fought?)
Also read what I write fully before giving your opinion. I said hopefully he can work towards a 'title'! Where did I mention a WORLD title? It's too early to tell how he will improve for those kind of talks.
I thought age might come up. Fair enough Tam but the age thing is a non factor in my opinion because he had maybe 15 amateur fights tops so he is not battle worn in the slightest. He lives a straight edge lifestyle and doesn't smoke, drink or anything. (we've seen what that can do for longevity, look at Hopkins)
Finally, the guy he beat hasn't been knocked out in 2 years and a two time ABA finalist in Tom Dallas couldn't get the job done a couple months ago either and Sinan Samil Sam took 2 rounds to do it. A great start for Larry and this despite him being nervous. Give him a chance, it's one fight.
Shame really Daxx, you gave me my first few cc's in this place but I'm not quite sure where you get off on this new bullshit attitude. Constructive criticism is one thing but you need to get off your high horse. You might be right all along but let's wait and see shall we before you get your knickers in a bunch! I'll chat to you again when he picks up his first title..
Re: Olubamiwo debut - Seen a heavyweight recently in this kind of shape??
Did he have any other type of fight experience ie kick boxing or thai boxing? 15 amatuers fights and 1 pro fight at 30 shows he doesnt have a lot of experience. A tough domestic heavyweight like Danny Williams with a semi decent chin I believe would be able to weather his storm and beat him. Although he looks like he has power, its not everything in boxing. If he came in with somebody who can box, but he still wins conviningly I can definatly back him to win a title. Buts its a waiting game, lets see how he gets on in his next one.
Re: Olubamiwo debut - Seen a heavyweight recently in this kind of shape??
He doesn't look like he is very good. He looks like your typical body builder, trying to box.

With the current heavyweight crop there's no reason why ANYBODY can't win a title.
There's especially no reason why he can't win a British or Commonwealth title too. A fat, obese John McDermott clearly beat Danny Williams last time out. Williams and Skelton are both coming to the end of their careers, Audley Harrison is garbage, David Haye is looking at world honours.
The British domestic scene heavyweight door is wide open.
Re: Olubamiwo debut - Seen a heavyweight recently in this kind of shape??
All things considered, for a debut he didn't look bad at all.
Re: Olubamiwo debut - Seen a heavyweight recently in this kind of shape??
Hard to make any judgements on that fight. He throws pretty good punches, he's not too sloppy. Didn't look too accurate but he got the job done. I don't think 30 is too late for heavyweights, you got guys fighting into their 40's and doing just fine. He just need to fight regularly and lets see what he looks like 10 fights from now.
Re: Olubamiwo debut - Seen a heavyweight recently in this kind of shape??
That guys neck/fat is freakily big, looks like it would take a truck to move his head an inch ,
' looks like ' ;)
Re: Olubamiwo debut - Seen a heavyweight recently in this kind of shape??
Worked with Larry, I was impressed with His attitude plus He is a lovely Guy, wish Him all the Best.
Re: Olubamiwo debut - Seen a heavyweight recently in this kind of shape??
We need all the depth we can get at heavyweight....after a couple fights maybe he can get after Audley ;)
Re: Olubamiwo debut - Seen a heavyweight recently in this kind of shape??
For a debut the guy looks good...
