I'm making a website (link attached)
I've been planning to start a small business doing office cleaning for a few years now. And last year started to make a website.. I looked up websites that taught how to write the code for it, and have been making my website just using notepad... Also i've made all my own graphics in Photoshop which has been hard, but i'm quite proud of what i've come up with so far.. It's very basic and already I want to overhaul it and make it more futuristic.. But I wanted to just make a website with all the basics and then change it around once I actually get further with other area's of the business.
Anyway, here is a link to the website i'm working on.. Most of the pages just have general crappy notes I wrote quickly to summarize the page, or they have no notes at all. But I made sure all the links work so you can browse through...
So far i'm pretty proud what i've came up with from scratch..
Anyway with any advice or comments would be cool

Good stuff mate i made my first website on a free hosting site... i would suggest buying a domain name GreenGlobal.com
or officecleaningGB.com somthing around them lines and getting it hooked up to a paying host once you have it sorted ;)
then start lising it in all the free buisness directorys around the net and local newspaper ads...good luck ;)
also i tried phoning you but once i pressed the star key twice it said your number is not reconized ;D...

I started to consider starting a buisness called Universal Services. The name was already taken so I scrapped the entire project.

Good luck on your business. If you need any specific help on the website coding, I would be more than happy to help. It's a good start it's easy to get around and it makes sense.
Re: I'm making a website (link attached)
I'm happy that you are interested in making websites. First, you need to study not just html. Using notepad is okay but in the website business, you'll be behind if you use notepad only. Try Dreamweaver.
When I started to make websites, I bought almost a dozen books on html and javascript. Practiced those scripts for almost two months. Painstakingly got acquainted with html and javascript codes.....
After html and javascript, I tried macromedia dreamweaver. I must admit that dreamweaver made it easier to make templates. I could do a month's work using html and javascript in just one week through dreamweaver.
Then I studied macromedia flash, fireworks and adobe photoshop.
Fireworks is nice if you want to make menus that are really cool.
Don't forget to study CSS also. It makes scripting easier and organized.
If you want to have a database(your clients would definitely want them), you need to study php, asp or jsp, etc.
If you are the lazy type, try Mambo/Joomla or any other CMS that will help you create websites easier. CMS like Joomla is pretty good if you know php coz you might download modules and components with kiddie scripts in them. Kiddie scripts are a big no,no to business.
If you have some problems don't hesitate to ask me. I might be able to give you some advice.

Nice one mate.
Im starting a small business in the new year. Built a site with dreamweaver, very basic, did some buttons and a banner in photoshop.
Its not going to make me rich but its a little project to work on.
Good luck.

First of all well done for getting off your ass and looking at starting your own business its hard work but the rewards are well worth it
I have worked for myself for 4 years I run a Graphic Design and Print company I also do a bit of marketing consulting as well as a couple of internet based business
Now your site
1. Lose Geocitys as saddo says well worth investing in your own domain name and sync up your email (e.g. Dizaster@greenglobal.com)
2. keep it simple list the key benefits your company offers, make this short one line statements that will get people excited (even about cleaning)
4. Add a strap line a very short line that tells everyone what you do
3. add some images you can buy good stock images for a few dollars from Stock Photography: Search Royalty Free Images & Photos
4. Contact details add your phone number in big clear letters to the top right hand corner of every page, don't make people think where they have to look
5. Create a call to action offer a free quote and healthy office report, this allows you to go and see them look round there office tell them how shit there current cleaner is and sell yourself
I have attached an updated home page to show what I mean I spent no time on this so I am sure you can update this and make it better (get a better image ect.) but it may help
The most important thing it to get your message across simply
I think you are on the right track and just need to make some tweeks and you will be there
Hope this helps

damn.. you're writing in notepad? good for you, man..
i'd take the easy way and use frontpage or dreamweaver and not write anything.. but that's cause i hate html and any other programming..
looks good though.. nice work!
