Calzaghe might not retire!
After repeatedly proclaiming to reporters that he would retire after Saturday night's fight with Roy Jones, Jr. at Madison Square Garden in New York City, unbeaten Welsh superstar Joe Calzaghe (46-0, 32 KOs) seems to be backing off on that pledge. "It could be my last fight," the 36-year-old Calzaghe said after the fight. "I won't make the final decision yet. I'll go home, sit down, have a think and evaluate the situation."Former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis says he believes Calzaghe should retire. Lewis told BBC 5. "He's beaten everybody there is to beat and doesn't have anything else to prove, so I think he should retire." Former promoter Frank Warren says he thinks Calzaghe will continue. "Before the fight he was saying it was his last fight and now he's saying he's not sure," said Warren. "They say that fighters are the last people to know when it's time to give up but I think they're the last ones to admit it and that's what he needs to do."Unbeaten IBF/IBO light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson was quick to issue a press release challenging Calzaghe and offering to fight Super Joe on his home turf in Wales. "I'm ready to give Joe the opportunity to draw the curtain on his great career in front of his family and friends and 70,000 fans," claimed Dawson. "It's the best fight in the light heavyweight division between two undefeated champions."Meanwhile, Jones Jr. (52-5, 38 KOs), who turns 40 in two months, stated that he may continue to fight. "I’ll talk to my team, talk to my family and see how I feel. If I feel good, I’ll continue to fight. If I don’t, I won’t."

Re: Calzaghe might not retire!
I think he should quit and leave with his '0' in tact .You know what, for about 10 seconds in one of the rounds yesterday Jones started popping out some really fast stiff jabs which kept Calzaghe at distance. I would really love to see him fight somebody that would do that all night and see how he adapts.
Re: Calzaghe might not retire!
He for certain should retire or one of these new upcoming fighters, could take that 0 away from him. I think Chad Dawson has a good chance, although he goes into a shell at times. He still has alot of attributes to give Joe Calzaghe fits.
Re: Calzaghe might not retire!
if he does fight it wont be against chad dawson, calzaghe doesn't fight unbeaten champions........ i know calzghes way of thinking i've followed him since the 90's, he only fought reid after reid was past his best and beaten handly by an old man, he only fought woodhall after he was ko'd.................... don't be suprise if NOW AFTER HE'S LOST SO ROUNDLY HE TAKES A FIGHT WITH PAVLIK, THE SAME PAVLIK HE SAID WASN'T IN HIS LEAGUE, he'lldress like he always does with " the fans want me to fight him so i will " he never fought sven ottka, had ottka lost he would have straight away fought him.....he only fights guys who are past there best and have lost.........OR IF THERE UNBEATEN THEY ARE 1 DIMENTIONAL STAND INFRONT OF YOU FIGHTERS........... FAIR DUES KESSLER IS A GOOD FIGHTER BUT HE'S A BASIC STAND UP 1 DIMENTIONAL TYPE OF FIGHTER

Kessler tried it, Hopkins tried it, Jones tried it, Joe can outwork them all.

Kessler did, but Hopkins and Jones didn't for more than spurts. Whether Calzaghe's offence prevented them or what I don't know
Re: Calzaghe might not retire!
He should retire whilst at the top.
Re: Calzaghe might not retire!
He should try to beat dawson first to get that cherry on top. If he doesn't beat dawson, so what, the 0 means nothing unless you crush all doubt about your record. Calzaghe beat two old past their prime fighters in a row. If he doesn't get a young hungry near prime lion on his resume now, he will forever hear people discredit him for fighting grampas.
Re: Calzaghe might not retire!
No one in the game even gives Joe a fight. But, I think he should fight Hopkins again just to cement his legacy.
Re: Calzaghe might not retire!
Say Joe fights Dawson and beats him and (I dont think this has any chance of happening but for the purposes of my point ill say it) Froch beats Kessler, attention will turn to froch.
It doesnt matter because Joe doesnt have a buff body that some of the gay boys on here can drool over like they did Lacy before his fight with Joe or Kesslers body and tattoo, or throw a big eye catching hay maker, Joe will never get recognition by some because he doesnt look or fight like they would want.
Joe can beat anyone and hurts some "fans" who actually cry after their fighter gets beat;D;D
There will always be another hope that can maybe give Joe a fight but until someone like that comes along Joe should retire because there are no big superstar threats out there, even Dawson for all his qualitys couldnt be made a favourite over Joe, so it wouldnt be very marketable.
Pavlik was seen as a wreaking machine who had a chance with his power, Dawson doesnt have that draw.
Re: Calzaghe might not retire!
say he has anotehr fight whats the point? there will always be some one wanting to fight him some one new coming up

Re: Calzaghe might not retire!
The only reason he should fight on would be to break Marciano's record of 49-0 and that would take 4 more fights. Otherwise he should just fight 1 fight to cement him against a prime contender. JT, Bute, Froch, or Dawson comes to mind. Hmm thats 4 more fights. Theres no way you could deny him anything if he pulled that off. He would be G.O.A.T.
Re: Calzaghe might not retire!
Marcianos recors isnt that great.
Only 7 title fights, and 2 were rematches and only during 3 years:rolleyes:
Rocky fought alot of stiffs to get to championship level.
Liston and Foremans title reigns were also poor and over rated:rolleyes:
