If Oscar wins will he be the first fighter ever to come down from 160?
I know everyone thinks it's a forgone conclusion that Oscar will beat Manny but I'm not so sure.
I've not heard of many fighters who have moved down two weight classes before.
Oscar looked ripped at 154 I think getting back down to 147 might be very hard on his body.
When you look at Jones Jr, Tarver and Chris Byrd and how much they all struggled with moving down in weight you have to wonder if it's possible for Oscar in his mid 30's to be in fighting shape at 147 any more?
I certainly think it makes for an interesting fight, and if Oscar does beat Pack he WILL deserve a great deal of credit imo.
Everyone is talking about how Manny is moving up to face the much bigger man but it works both ways and Oscar is moving DOWN to a weight class he's not fought in in years.
Could be tough for Oscar.
Re: If Oscar wins will he be the first fighter ever to come down from 160?
who had actually dropped the most divisions b4?? and has any fighter moved there way down the divisions instead ov up?? i know it would be difficult..
Re: If Oscar wins will he be the first fighter ever to come down from 160?
I don't think its that big of a deal. The examples you listed (Roy, Byrd) were dropping 15 plus pounds to come back down. Oscar is younger than those guys, and he's only dropping less than half of that. I think 154 is his natural weight class as he always looked a bit soft at 160 IMO.
I still think Manny will have to fight PERFECTLY or De La Hoya will have to have an incredibly piss poor showing for this fight to go to Manny. Despite what people think, Oscar is not washed up. This guy just gave PBF one hell of a tough fight. He has huge 1-punch power and fast hands, and a good jab when he choses to use one. Manny has been knocked cold by 112lbers. Furthermore, I don't even think Manny is a huge puncher at 135. He had to batter David Diaz around for 9 roudns before he could stop him. I don't think Manny can hurt Oscar and with his added bulk I don't think he can dance around him for the entire fight without getting popped.

Size will be the only factor here...Fact is DLH made this fight with Pacquiao because there was a lack of an elite fighter available for him to face before he retires...
Dawson, Calzaghe too big....Hopkins well we know what happened there already...Vazquez not happening,,Doniare impossible,,,Same for Munoz and Darchinyan...Klitschko just proposturous....
Pacquiao the only one...He is not chancing Margarito after his last 3 blowouts....Williams bad move again...Cotto....would not before and after the loss to Tony the marketability lost some.....
Pacquiao only choice left....DLH is desperate for a victory over a P4P fighter in their prime before he retires....He hinks he has the upperhand with Pacquiao...and he might...but it is shameful that he is that desperate....I hope Pacquiao hands him his ass...Would serve him right
Re: If Oscar wins will he be the first fighter ever to come down from 160?
Gotta disagree, Daxx. Vernon Forrest is right there in his own weight division and he has a title. Besides, you really meant a lack of an elite fighter Oscar was willing to face. Paul Williams was practically begging for an opponent and luring Margarito to 154 would have been easy. Oscar just didn't want those guys. He leapfrogged a guy who last fought 20 pounds south of his normal weight class.
Re: If Oscar wins will he be the first fighter ever to come down from 160?
I fought De La Hoya might of struggled to make the weight but he says he is at 146 already below the weight,Is he over training?
Re: If Oscar wins will he be the first fighter ever to come down from 160?
be funny if he drains himself too much and loses would be a big loss to boxing tho i think
Re: If Oscar wins will he be the first fighter ever to come down from 160?
I think ih Delahypa comes in at 147 or near it he will be it for some big problems.Just the shredding alone coupled with age & lack of activity it just does not mack cents.....but will make many dollars :-X.
Re: If Oscar wins will he be the first fighter ever to come down from 160?
never thought of the t drain issue, just always thought how is manny gonna fight a much bigger DLH, good point Bilbo:)
makes me think why this fight has been made (without mentioning money), is it for DLH to bully manny & he thinks is an easy fight or does DLH generally think this is a superfight thats gonna be superhard?

I bet he's hungry. I mean really, really hungry. The question is how much will he weigh on the unofficial scales. I'll guess 158.
Pac will have trouble because of how far he had to come up, but Oscar is going to be a tad off from coming down too much.

I don't know Dax! De La Hoya now openly says that this will not be his last fight. There's still time for him to set up fights with Vasquez, Donaire, Darchiniyan, etc...

Compare the draw of Forrest vs. the Draw of PAC, no contest, plus PAC is #1 or #2 on pretty much everyones p4p lists*
* depending on how they judged the Marquez fights.

John Mugabi moved down to win the WBC LMW title after facing Hagler at middleweight, although he apparently won the title by default after a 1st round injury to Jacquot. In his first defense of the title he was crushed by Terry Norris.

Im sorry did you miss what I said?.....I made it clear that Oscar avoided those guys (Williams, Margarito, Cotto etc).....Sure it would have been easy to lure Tony and sure Williams was looking for an opponent but in truth are either the caliber opp he is looking for on his resume.....
Good fighters yes but they are not revered in the same breath as...Mosley, Trinidad, Hopkins, Mayweather etc....All of which were the top P4P or at least the person that rivaled him in popularity or challenged him on the ratings list....He lost to them all....He does not want to be known as the fighter who was great but dropped the ball when he faced the cream of the crop in their primes....
Varnon Forrest?...Are you kidding me?...The guy who just lost to Sergio Mora (yes he avenged the loss but it is a point) a guy who is really not thought highly of...(I like the guy but the boxing world has him at not being what he should be).....Forrest who should have been given the L in the Quartey fight...Forrest would be of no real signifigance at this point..
Titles at this stage mean nothing to DLH...They are trinkets...So the fact Forrest has a title means nothing......
Yes he is jumping a guy 20lbs ahead because he wants...No make that he NEEDS that win over the elite P4P opp and right now he can care less who it is as long as he has a better then 50/50 chance of winning.....
This fight is not for money...not for the fans....not one people have beem begging for...it is one DLH hopes gives him that W

He will only attempt to make those fights if Solis or Roman Gonzales are busy
