a question for my Saddo friends.
I was trying to remember the last time a Frank Warren fighter won his FIRST title , against an established World Champion.
Barry Jones - vacant WBO.
Joe Calzaghe - vacant WBO.
Ricky Hatton - vacant WBU.
Alex Arther - interim then given WBO.
Enzo Mac - vacant WBU - then vacant WBO.
Lets compile a list of champs , that have fought for vacant title and those who have fought champions who were not already Warren fighters.
there is a pattern here , Ive just thought of this now , and haven't researched it , but i will , until then give me your views guys and gals.
Re: a question for my Saddo friends.
Gavin Reese I suppose, then back to Naz.

yea Rees is one of them , but he wasnt even world class , but yea we can give him that.
and Naz fought a Warren fighter in Robinson. i was wondering if many had won a none vacant title , and not won againest an already Warren fighter.
and we are talking FIRST title.
Re: a question for my Saddo friends.
Ahhh did see the already Warren fighters bit, so thats both Reese and Naz out then ;D

i can half accept Rees because M'baye hadnt been promoted by Warren for that long.
Re: a question for my Saddo friends.
Nah fuck it, scratch em both. M'Baye was employed to get at Hatton, then when that went tits up he was kept on to sacrifice his title to Amir ;D

OK NO NEED TO CONVINCE ME :)
Re: a question for my Saddo friends.
Why are you classing the WBU as a title? :-\
Hatton beat Kostya for the IBF
Bruno beat McCall for the WBC
Re: a question for my Saddo friends.
Terry Marsh for the IBF he was a Warren fighter

Yea Bruno was Warren promoted at the time he beat McCall ,
but although i dont class the WBU as a real world title , i think Warren was peddling Hatton as World champ of the WBU , so im not counting Hatton .
so far we have Bruno.

I don't know ONE proper boxing fan (and doesn't mean hardcore/anorak types like on here) that ever regarded Hatton as WORLD champion because of that WBU crap.
Warren is a promoter. If a poxy WBU belt helps SELL his shows he's gonna use it. Who wouldn't?

great pity he had the YIPS that day :)
Re: a question for my Saddo friends.
It happens a lot, titles are vacated rather than fight mandatories. Warren obviously has a lot of leverage with the WBO and chose fights which would progress his fighters to no.1, he can't really have foreseen that Collins and Nelson would retire.
Hennesey seems to prefer the WBC route, and Witter and Froch (if he wins) will win vacated titles.
Cotto, Margarito, Jones Jr, Tarver, Hopkins, JMM, Judah are just some high profile boxers who also had first titles which were vacant. (OK, I went on Boxrec and of about 20 or so bigish names I searched just under half were in this vacated group)
