Definately, Max Cady was cold blooded. Another one of Deniro's performances that I think is underrated was as McCauley in 'Heat.' That man was a calculated killer. The part where he calls up the guy and says, "I'm talking into an empty telephone, because there is a dead man on the other end of this fuckin' line" is one of my all time favorite lines.

Robert Mitchum did MUCH better he had menace DeNiro wouldn't have been let out of prison.
Al Pacino in Godfather and Scarface
Kevin Spacey in Se7en
Malcom McDowell in Clockwork Orange
Jack Nicholson in The Shining
Michael Douglas in Wall Street...he doesn't kill anyone but he's a cold blooded bastard
If you think the character Patrick Bateman(Christian Bale) in American Psycho is evil in the movie then you will be shocked when you read the book.
Re: Most Cold Blooded Performances By An Actor
Arnold in the original Terminator

There's another movie called Falling Down, where Douglas plays a meek, white collar somewhat nerdy type, who snaps and goes vigilante, kills all sorts of scumbags in a cold and ruthless manner. A better movie than the Death wish series, which IMO was kind of gratuitous with its violence.
