Zsolt is now fighting Yuri Barashian instead of Dean Francis.
Can someone explain to me how WBO matchmaking works? The WBO rankings (Rankings - World Boxing Organization) list Bernard Hopkins (sup champ) as the #1 ranked opponent. Yuri Barashian is ranked #13, but Yuri is fighting Erdei?
How do you become a mandatory?

Well...maybe because Erdei is fighting in Germany and Barashian is known here because of his fight and ko win over Thomas Ulrich...its more interesting for the german audience so Erdeis promotor pulled some strings...ahh hell I don't know...

In the second world championship clash of the night WBO super middleweight world champion Denis Inkinen (34-0, 24 KOs) faces his stall colleague and #1 rated Karoly Balzsay (19-0, 14 KOs). This eagerly awaited duel between the two unbeatens was originally slated as an interim championship bout at the end of September, but had to be cancelled after Balzsay suffered a cut in training. Inkin defeated replacement opponent Fulgencio Zuniga for the full WBO champion after reigning champion Joe Calzaghe stepped down.
"The cancellation was very sad for me," said Balzsay today. "Of course, I'm happy that I have received a chance at the championship fight so quickly after my injury - yes, I'm finally #1 WBO and so the mandatory challenger. Denis Inkinen is a strong opponent - he is the champion. It's nice that both Zsolt Erdei and I can enter the ring at an event. I can learn a great deal from him and he supports me during the preparation!"
"This is a very close match," said Sdunek, who trains Balzsay as well as Erdei, "but I think that Karoly has very good chances. He has recently matured very much as a boxer, he has strong nerves and those dynamics can decide the fight."
Inkin's trainer Magomed Schaburow was under the weather and did not attend the press conference. However, he did speak via phone hookup. "Two hard punchers will meet," he commented, "but I just hope that both leave the ring healthy and the better one wins. It is in every case a very tough fight for both."

Zsolt Erdie continious to be a hard core pussy, in fighting only meaningless matches to defend his pathetic alphabet trinket.
Joe C. is THE Light-Heavyweight Champion of the World. All other titles have no value.
what the hell is going on here barashin fought garay for the WBA title in his last fight and lost, how the hell does he now get a shot at the WBO title? A fight with Dean Francis was obviously far too dangerous for Erdei what with Francis' known KO power. Erdei's list of opponents is a joke, the only decent fighter he has fought is Garay and he got a gift decision in that one. I bet he'll retire undefeated like Sven Ottke, at least Ottke had the balls to get out there and fight live opponents like reid, mitchell, brewer e.t.c even though they all got robbed on German soil.
Dawson should start calling out Erdei and offer to fight in Germany. That way Erdei would have no choice but to defend his title against a legitimate light heavyweight.
Really though, we should all just ignore Erdei because he is a paper champion and a waste of talent.

Erdei stated that he wants the big names,but his management doesn't comply with his wishes apparently...I really believe Erdei and I think his management holds him back(like they do with Sturm,Dzinziruk or Inkin or like they did with the Klitschkos or Michalczewski...)...But I doubt that Erdei would get easily out of the contract and even if where to ?Erdei is to old for big management changes and sadly as it is he will soon fall into oblivion,if his career goes the way it did...:(Quote:
