Gerald McClellan Was A Savage Body Puncher.
In the past month or so someone put up about 10+ Gerald McClellan fights, i was bored so i decided to watch em. I always love watching punchers go to work.
And what was suprising to me, was how many body shot KO's he had. He literally had opponents doubling over and wanting to quit. In only seconds into the 1st round no joke.
I knew he done good work to the body but i didn't know, he was that good of a body puncher. He was god damn devastating, i've never seen anyone make opponents double over and want to quit in the opening round.
I noticed he always loved to set up his body punches by throwing Jab/Right Hand Combo. Followed by a left hook right underneath the elbow.
What a shame we never seen Gerald McClellan against some of the greatest, Middleweights of the modern era. And the sad thing is i don't think it would of mattered had he not fought Nigel Benn.
Because he was already suffering from bad headaches before the Nigel Benn fight. Which i think was caused, by his rough sparring sessions and his war with Julian Jackson. I think he was an accident waiting to happen, even before the tragic Nigel Benn fight, but whats your thoughts on some of these points guys/girls ?

Huge McClellan fan, Gerald was always lumped in as the typical banger and brawler because of how he dispatched opponents and the violent, furious way he did it. What gets overlooked is his the fact that he was a very balanced fighter with underrated boxing skills. Gerald was very smart and methodical with excellent punch selection, like you said he was a body snatcher in his own right.. he was fast set up his punches well, he was like a surgeon the way he would carve up his opponents and leave them broken.. It was a shame to me the way his career ended, but like you said he was just 2-3 fihts away from the same result with Benn if they never waged such a brutal assault on each other.. Gerald could have beaten anyone at 160-168 in the history of the sport not saying he would but he was on par with the best of them.. He had more than a punchers chance he was a an excellent all around fighter with a great chin

I thing Gerald was probably the most vicious fighter I've ever seen. He had so many tools to hurt you with. I love his right hand, left hook to the body combo. Fantastic body puncher, great puncher in general, a damn shame what happened to him.

He was a monster. Benn was great that night, but just a little lucky to get through him. Could have been interesting against any number of other fighters.

McClellan had the wing span of a condor.I think alot of what effected him was blowing up so much in between fights.Just a physical specimen and huge talent.Hope he is comfortable,doing as well as humanly possible.

That 3 Punch combo was his best. I believe he stopped Julian Jackson with it in their second fight?

Well everyone, but Roy Jones Jr, he only hada puncher's chance against him, and Roy was a totally different fighter htan he was when they were amateurs.

I agree 100%, no one would make a fool of him not even RJJ. Benn was just insane that night and showed his toughness and determination, something RJJ never had, he was just pure talent and no balls IMO
