Great match-up. Clottey will again show why his name should be mentioned when talking about future opponents for any of the current elite fighters. Cintron tends to crack against guys who can take his power and chins don't get any harder than Clottey's. Joshua has enough pop to make Cintron quit on his feet and being the faster fighter he can make Kermit look 2 steps behind.
I was hoping to see a Clottey vs. Berto fight but this ones looking pretty good also. I'm thinking Clottey takes this by UD or by late TKO.
It's a battle of Margarito victims.
Is Clottey faster than Cintron? He may be.
Cintron has height and reach advantage ( via Box Rec: 5'11 v. 5'8 and 74" v. 70").
Cintron packs a bigger punch than Clottey. Has Clottey ever fought someone with as big of a punch?
Why was Clottey dq'd in his fight against Baldomir?
I'm starting to think that Cintron's power is a bit overrated. No doubt he has very good power, but he's yet to prove that he is devastating puncher he's made out to be IMO.
Anyways, he'll be the hardest puncher Clottey has faced, but Clottey has exceptional defense, so I don't think Cintron will land with great regularity. Clottey also has a very good chin.
Headbutting I believe, I've never seen the fight.
Clottey by UD over Cintron.
Here's an article on Clottey - Baldomir. It was a low-blow. Kind of a shitty article, but it's the only one I found in a quick search.
Brick City Boxing - January 2006
Clottey should win this one pretty clearly late TKO or wide UD.
Cintron has shown he's a bit like Judah in that when everything isn't going his way he just falls apart. I think Cintron has extremely good power and is legitamately one of the hardest p4p punchers in the sport today, but to utilize that power he has to be set and has to be at the right range. Margarito used small movement to keep Cintron from being able to set. Same thing N'Dou was able to do small movements just enough so Cintron couldn't plant his feet. I have to assume the case will be the same with Clottey.
I for one am a Cintron fan and I think Clottey is very overrated. I don't see anything fantastic about Clottey whatsoever. To me if he was this beast he would have gotten rid of Judah who was a former shell of himself alot quicker. He got by and did well against an out of shape Margarito. I have not see anything else that makes me say ooh and aah about Clottey . Cintron on the other hand has been knocked out by Maragarito and I don't know if he will ever be the same but one thing will remain he does have power. The questions to ask now is Can Clottey take a punch and can Cintron keep himself together for 12 rounds. I think this will be a tremendous fight if it happens.
I agree, Cintron to win, good math up of the B level fighters trying to get it on with the A class fighters like Cotto, Marg and Shane. Also ODH ;D
This would be a good fight to watch. I'm with the majority though. I think Cintron doesn't handle getting punched back very well. Once he realizes Clottey isn't backing down, he'll feel like he's cornered and probably get knocked out.
I honestly think the Cintron that fought Margarito the second time beats most of the top welterweights, he is so much bigger than Cotto, and I don't think Cotto would have handled those punches from Kermit.
I am not sure how CLottey walking through his punches affects him late, but if Kermit knows he won't stop Clottey I think he can relatively easily outbox Clottey on the outside, I mean it was Margarito's work rate that really gave Cintron problems, and Clottey doens't have that work rate. People need to realize Clottey isn't a huge puncher, I mean he wasn't really hurting Judah, and I don't think judah would have quit against him. I was surprised he wasn't able to impose himself more on Judah, who kept fighting back, and Cintron kept throwing punches against Margarito, whereas Judah usually stops throwing punches. Cintron couldn't stop Lovemore N'dou and it got ugly, but he didn't give up.
This post makes sense to me.
I don't like Clottey's style.
Admittedly, I've seen some footage of Clottey, but not a ton.
Does Clottey attack? Is he a pressure fighter? Does he throw a lot of punches? If he isn't a pressure fighter (and he doesn't appear to be in the video below) then I don't see how he takes Cintron out of his rhythm.

Clottey is who I would bet on...That guy is one of the most underrated fighters in the sport....His only real downside is speed and hand problems other then that he is the complete package.....
Good Power
Great Chin
Great Defensive Shell
Good Jab
I like the guy a lot...Funny fellow as well.....
I did an interview with him oveer the phone once...he asked me to call him at home around 8...so I call him he keeps telling me to hold on....Finally we start interviewing....He is making noises like...DOH...OWW...Dat...
So I am like WTF:confused:
Finally I ask him if everything is OK just to see what the reply was...he answers back
"I am OK sorry about that..I hurt my back today and figured I would take a bath to relax and when you called I was just getting into the tub...And the Water is too damn hot!!"
He definitely is a good fighter, I just don't see his power or style being one to break Cintron's spirits. I don't think Cintron gets enough respect, especially considering what Margarito did to Cotto, I mean Cintron stood right in front of Margarito, and was fighting hard until Margarito wrecked him with the hardest body shot I've seen Margarito throw.
