Is Universum the worst boxing promotional company?
Universum and Peter Kohl turned down a financially lucrative fight between their client, Felix Sturm, and Athur Abraham. ESPN - Dan Rafael Blog.
Universum is ruining Zsolt Erdei's legacy by consistently pitting him against overmatched, no-name opponents. European Boxing Roundup: Zsolt Erdei, Bowe vs Pukall, More
And now, they apparently turned down a match between Sergei Dzindziruk and Paul Williams. Sergei Dzinziruk Turns Down a Paul Williams Fight - Boxing News.
Of course, one can't be sure if it is the fighters who are purposefully choosing to avoid big fights, but it is doubtful that three champions are reluctant to fight mega fights. Rather, it is more likely the reverse is true: Universum is unwilling to allow their fighters to compete on a global scale.
Shame on them.
Re: Is Universum the worst boxing promotional company?

Re: Is Universum the worst boxing promotional company?
They are certainly not doing anything good for boxing fans in Germany.
Re: Is Universum the worst boxing promotional company?
In three different weight classes, they are preventing unification.
Re: Is Universum the worst boxing promotional company?
there actually rather good at bringing the sport of boxing to the people of central europe and thus increasing its popularity.
No coincidence in the rise of central/eastern european fighters now making their way stateside due to well earned tv coverage.
Just thank god for the likes of Ottke they werent around in his time as the second he got sent over to america he would of been handed endless whoppings by very average fighters!!

Sergei Dzinziruk Turns Down a Paul Williams Fight
By Rick Reeno
A few days ago, WBO junior middleweight champion Sergei Dzinziruk appeared on the internet and issued a challenge to the newly crowned interim-champion Paul Williams. Early tonight, an irate George Peterson, manager and trainer of Williams, contacted BoxingScene.com to voice his displeasure over Dzinziruk turning down a fight with Williams.
According to Peterson, promoter Dan Goossen and advisor Al Haymon were working on a potential meeting between Williams and Dzinziruk in the United States. Peterson says that Dzinziruk and Universum [Sergei's promoter] wanted no part of the fight.
"This guy goes on the internet and calls for a fight with Paul Williams. He said 'I want Paul Williams, I'll fight Paul Williams anywhere.' I get a call from Dan [Goossen] and he told me that Sergei Dzinziruk turned the fight down. He doesn't want to fight Paul Williams. When I heard Sergei wanted to fight Paul, I started licking my chops. Dan and Al [Haymon] were working to get us that fight, and he turned the fight down," Peterson said.
Dan Goossen was unavailable for comment, but one of my contacts in Germany advised me that Dzinziruk is asking for an outrageous sum of money to fight in America. Given the state of the American economy and looming budget cuts that are going to make HBO and Showtime more selective on how they spend their money, it's outrageous for any fighter with absolutely no "name value" in the United States to make unrealistic monetary demands to fight in the country. The news is not surprising when considering that Universum recently turned down an offer of 2.5 million Euro [over $3 million USD] to match middleweight Felix Sturm in a unification bout with Arthur Abraham.
................................
The Dzinziruk interview from fightnews:
WBO light middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (36-0, 22 KOs) has informed Fightnews.com that he is ready to fight the winner between Paul "The Punisher" Williams (35-1, 26 KOs) and Verno Phillips (42-10-1, 21 KO), who box Saturday night for an interim version of his WBO light middleweight championship. "I will look to fight the winner of Williams–Phillips," saud Dzinziruk. "I think that Williams will win. He is younger and stronger. Williams says he wants fight with me? I'm ready. Just let me know where and when. I think it would be an excellent fight. I want this fight in the USA. But for noe it's only talk. First I want to box in a unification fight with Daniel Santos (32-3-1, 23 KOs), the WBA light middleweight champion. I've already beat him and I'm able to do it once again. After I will take on Paul Williams."
............................
He said he wanted to fight Williams, but he also stated to fight Santos first...and as long as I don't know Dzinziruks so called outrageous demands I won't comment this, because it could also mean that Dzinziruk wasn't willing to fight Williams for pittance...
Re: Is Universum the worst boxing promotional company?
Definitely.
I can't believe how bad they are protecting Erdei.
Arthur Abraham is the only German fighter that actually has a pair of bollox, shame on the rest of them.
No wonder nobody follows German Boxing, a bunch of frauds

Even more interesting news on Dzinziruk...
Dzinziruk camp denies report!

http://www.fightnews.com/dzinzurik250x220.jpgUniversum Box-Promotion Statement: It is alleged in an Internet report that Universum Box-Promotion would reject a battle between WBO super welterweight world champion Sergiy Dzinziruk against the interim champion Paul Williams. This allegation is absolutely false, absurd and has no basis. Representatives of both sides, Universum Box-Promotion and Goossen Tutor Promotions, have had contact with each other and there will be negotiations, but as usual behind the scenes. Until today we have not spoken "about even one cent," but we will put out offers and evaluate. WBO champion Sergiy Dzinziruk sticks to his statements made on Boxing News 24 hours/day -- the #1 resource in boxing -- following Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray, Oscar De La Hoya and all your boxing favorites "I want the fight against Paul Williams as quickly as possible and I totally do not care where. I will quite simply knock out Williams!"

I agree. Need look no further than Abraham or Adamek (Poland but point is the same).
