Could the global financial crisis actually help produce better US fighters?

This is a bit out of left field but hear me out? I think it is true to say that fighters that come from a poor background tend to have extra hunger to succeed, compared to someone who already has money.

US boxing has i think slipped a little in the last ten or so years and i think it has a lot to do with the fact that things have been pretty good financially there. Why make money from being punched in the face when it is easy to other ways? Now that things look to be tougher will that change?

Im an Aussie and the same could be said for my country. We produce many good sportspeople in all kinds of sports, but have very few top boxers. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that we are a lucky country financially and ppl dont have to fight for their money.

So i think what im trying to say is that if it becomes harder to make money in plaes like the US and Australia will it mean that those countries start producing hungrier more determined fighters? I may be full of shit but it hink i have a point. Think of all the great fighters who came from a tough up bringing.

A majority of the great fighters at the moment are from countries where it is harder to make a buck.

Yes that was Bush master plan. He though the US have no great heavyweights no more so I will create a world recession so that a poor destitute family can rear a baby to become the next heavyweight champion of the world in 20 years.

Poverty was a major motivator in sports in the last 200 years. When failure isn't an option, you train harder and smarter.

Well I did read that the Arena Football League might be canceled for this season so that may open the door to some more boxing on TV. I'm surprised ABC hasn't shown some fights since they own ESPN.

i don't think so.. i mean, it may be some sort of repercussion from the hurting economy at the moment, but i don't think you will see a spike in quality fighters..

it's not like a kid that goes to college, can't find a job, is only making $12 an hour, will now try boxing to enhance their finances.. if you're going to be a GOOD fighter, chances are you are already an athlete, and have started boxing already.. if you see that you have potential to become a great pro, then it will become your life just like any other professional sport..



i don't think that we have any hidden pound for pound kings who are white collar workers and are getting laid off or anything to that extent.. Boxing isn't just a sport you can jump into quickly and find out that you have the skills to compete with the elite..

but on the other hand, if you are a boxer and know you have skills but haven't pursued it as much as you may want to.. if you know that you can make some money off of it, then i guess you'd be more motivated to do so, but will the economic crisis produce better boxers? i don't see that happening.
