Barrera fights for the world title on Jan 31
According to the word coming out of Mexico, Marco Antonio Barrera's upcoming bout against Johnny Nolasco (17-4, 8KOs) will be for the vacant WBO interim-lightweight title. The ten round lightweight contest will take place in Guadalajara, Mexico on January 31.
Don King must be a better promoter than Oscar was. Good to see Barrera back where he belongs as a 4 division world champion

Barrera, what a fighter. He should win this, but Im still not sure about this comeback. Still, only Manny has been able to beat him properly in recent times, and Barrera could have done more in that IMO. The Don King association is a bit creepy, and I really hope it isnt going to last five years.

Why shouldn't MAB carry on ? he isn't like Erik Morales, i thought he boxed quite smart against Manny Pacquiao in the rematch and stole some rounds, he just didn't put enough workrate in. And was outworked down the stretch.
He was very good against JMM and in his comeback he looked decent enough to me aswell. Im not saying i agree with MAB's comeback, but im not saying im against it either. I've been a MAB fan for atleast 10 years or so.
I've watched most of his fights and i always like seeing him fight, and i still feel he has a few good ones left in him. Don't write him off just yet.

Well, that's nice of the WBO to just hand him a title. Late Christmas present?
Now he gets to call himself a 4 division champion .

it's for an interim title dude  doesn't make him a 4 division champion, hell Hector "Macho" Camacho fought for the WBFI and the WBE Jr. Middleweight titles last year, and won by TKO, that make him a current Jr. Middleweight champion?:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Re: Barrera fights for the world title on Jan 31
If it's a title match, why is it not a 12 rounder?

This is what Erik Morales should do on his comeback.
Come back do some warm up fights and then fight Marquez not fight Marquez on his first fight back like he wants.:-\

I'm repping you for this comment bud, because I agree. This is bullshit. How can a 10 rounder be for a world title, and how does his opponent qualify for this shot? For that matter, how does Barrera warrant the #1 WBO ranking in the 1st place?
I'm still pissed Morales didn't get the 4 weight distinction 1st when he boxed David Diaz' head off in one of the most blatent hometown decisions i've ever seen. It really pisses me off they're giving MAB the easy route.

Agree 100%. Barrera may win some bogus sanctioning body interim title belt, but it won't make him a 4 division champ.
We all need to start ignoring sanctioning body belts, they mean NOTHING.

Good ol Don King, determined to get every bit of Marrow out of the bone huh.I put nothing past him.....Doesn't he still promote Campbell?Hmmm. What say after Funeka, assuming Nate stays consistent,Barrera has a tinfoil trinket to bring into a match up?We are talking about King after all :scratchchin:......And yeah,I want JMM/Campbell big time

On past achievements. Its like Holyfield getting another shot at the heavyweight title after the loss to Ibrag
You could say the same of Morales. How did he deserve a shot at Diaz when he was coming off a loss to Raheem then two consecutive KO defeats to Pac?
