Re: How have I never heard of this Guy????
wow.. yeah thats terrible..
Stopped undefeated, two weight world champ..
wins over names like kevin lueshing and hacine cherifi both former felix trinidad victims.. Lueshing very underated and a solid fighter and cherifi a former middleweight champ although i think it was short lived..
and over winky wright.. which may or may not be just, i havent seen it but on paper it certainly looks good..

Thanks for the info Man, thats a shame, really is.
Re: How have I never heard of this Guy????
I know he did beat my man Rodney Jones who thought would have done big things in that division.
Re: How have I never heard of this Guy????
We used to get a "who/where is Harry Simon" thread EVERY week.
Sometimes two a week.
Obviously gone a bit quiet lately.
Re: How have I never heard of this Guy????
Wow me neither. I see he has a win over the Winkster?
Re: How have I never heard of this Guy????
There was talk of him coming back and I see he did have one fight but it looks to have come to nothing.
Re: How have I never heard of this Guy????
As far as I know he's doing a two year jail sentence over the 2002 accident
Re: How have I never heard of this Guy????
One more clicky: Harry Simon - Boxrec Boxing Encyclopaedia from the page you linked to, would have pretty much answered your own question...
He has fought since: Fight:1185727 - Boxrec Boxing Encyclopaedia
Re: How have I never heard of this Guy????
I was impressed when he took the punches from Wayne Alexander, and broke his hands on Simon's head. He out worked Winky but the decision was a draw at first from memory.
Re: How have I never heard of this Guy????
remember watching him not giving a shit about Wayne Alaxander's power shots... hell of a chin :o
Re: How have I never heard of this Guy????
Harry Simon had one of the best Amateur records in history 271-2, as BIG H said he was involved in a car crash and he killed 2 adults and a kid and injured 3 other people or something. He did have a comeback fight awhile ago but he looked sluggish, i have seen 3 fights of Harry Simon and he would of been a force at Jr Middleweight/Middleweight.
I wouldn't mind seeing Harry Simon vs Winky Wright again and scoring it. Haven't seen that fight in quite sometime. But he started serving his 2 year prison sentence in 2007 so he should be out soon. By the way Saddo Wayne Alexander took that fight on 24 hours notice, replacing Robert Allen.

Weeks a go I made a thread about the greatest Japanese fighter. Thanks to everyone for the replies and input I myself learned some stuff from that thread.
I did some research for the greatest African fighter here's what I came up with...
(Let me clarify that I put the list together looking at skills, opposition, titles, wins vs. loses among other things. I've also at least seen 1 full fight of each fighter plus highlights.)
1. Azumah Nelson
2. Dick Tiger (Richard Ihetu)
3. Thulani Malinga
4. Ike Quartey
5. Ayub Kalule
6. Sumbu Kalambay (Thanks No Contest ;) )
7. Harry Simon
8. Brian Mitchell
9.Digaan Thobela
10. Vuyani Bungu
*It's hard for me to rate Hogan Bassey cause I've only seen some small clips on him I know he beat Pep and all that but still I'd hate to rate him on that alone
Honor mentions: Piet Crous, Zolani Petelo, Silence Mabuza, Kassim Ouma, Ike Ibeabuchi, John Mugabi.
Thoughts opinions?
