Tall guys and body shots? Good idea?
I have a question, and this concerns taller guys and body punching. I want to know, from your perspective, if it is smart for taller guys to throw body punches. I know body punches are quite effective, but I think they are a better suited techniques for shorter Infighter type boxers against tall Outside Fighters.
I know in amateur boxing, body punching is often not taught, because in amateur competition boxing, body punches are hard to see by all judges scoring the bout, whereas headshots are easy to see right away. And body shots typically take a while to register, unless they're extremely hard and powerful shots.
I just think it is rather impractical and hard for a taller guy to move in on a shorter guy, sink down, and throw body hooks or crosses. The shorter guy can nail the taller guy easily.
Even if taller guys don't want to sink down to throw body punches, they still have the Jab, Cross, Left Hook/Right Hook, and Right/Left Uppercut to land on the head. Tell me, what do you guys think? Thanks.

Done properly, its great to have in your Arsenal.
Re: Tall guys and body shots? Good idea?
To land body shots against s shorter fighter you shouldn't attack head on and 'sink down'.
Fighters with longer arms are much better off landing body shots from the side, ie if you're circling to the left and you want to land a right you need to shift to the right and sneak your shot past the guard before he has a chance to adjust his alignment to you.

and yeah... once lost a bout because I landed mostly with body shots...
Re: Tall guys and body shots? Good idea?
Yea I think it is a good idea, and especially if a shorter fighter is using a high tight guard on you because of your height. Basically you want to throw to the body and instantly be ready to move back to head shots as it should force him to drop the guard some and create openings.
Re: Tall guys and body shots? Good idea?
Theoretically they could be great, but in practice a lot of shorter guys may sacrifice their guard to attack the body, which could be horribly detrimental
