"El Martillo" on ESPN2 2/20/09
Phoenix native Jesus "El Martillo" Gonzalez 24-1-0 (13 KOs) is coming in after 9 months of inactivity to face Colombian slugger Richard Gutierrez 24-2-1 (14 KOs) in a 10 round co-feature on Friday Night Fights. This is a very dangerous fight for Jesus, Richard is a tough customer as he showed in his exciting matchup against Angulo.
The other half of the co-feature stars Breidis "Khan Slayer" Prescott squaring off against fellow Colombian Humberto "I got KOed in one round against Peterson and in three by Soto" Toledo. Interesting to see another Colombian getting some traction. I actually like Prescott, he has the power you'd expect from the Colombian cloth, but he also knows how to jab well.
Thoughts?

Gutierrez also gave Joshua Clottey all he can handle. He was unlucky not to get a draw in that fight. This should be a good, exciting fight.

Gutierrez is ALWAYS good for good action, he had a really good fight his last time out against some relative unknown on FNF. I think it was on the Gamboa-Seeger card. He had a real good fight with Clottey, a real good one for Angulo this should be no different.
Toledo isn't a terrible fighter, he isn't just a body for Prescott to beat against, he does a lot of punching he just doesn't have all that much of a chin. He could be shot it's possible but who knows this might not be such a bad fight. Prescott is still really really raw.

Prescott throws much straighter punches than Toledo, I don't think Toledo's volume is going to mean much in this fight to be honest.

Same here, I'm not sure why he has been so inactive. I know it's an apples to oranges argument, but in the amatuers he beat Berto, Ward, Angulo and Powell. I guess he was supposed to fight JCC Jr. but JCC Jr. looked so poor against Vanda he had to rematch him and now JCC Jr. is going after Carlos Nascimento who should be an easy mark.

He beat Ward? When was that, I know Ward only had 5 amateur losses his last to Ernie Gonzales and has never lost since he was 16. That's interesting I always wondered who the other guys who beat him were.

Jesus Ernesto Gonzales AKA Ernie, it's the same guy. His am record was 151-9

Oh damn, I had no idea ;D Never made the connection.

A couple of years ago I saw some training footage of him and damn! was he impressive.
If he can shine on ESPN I'm sure that will open doors for him.
