This is the guy that Mayweather is "afraid" of?
Mayweather would dominate Margarito exactly like he dominated Baldomir, THis is exactly how I said Cotto should have foughten Margarito because if you clench him a lot, he can get anything off, he doesn't have the wrinkles to be effective in this type of fight. Cotto and Mosley IMO were/are stronger, Cotto was able to muscle Margarito around when they were tied up, but then he would back away instead of staying in his chest which I said he should have done. I can't believe how easy this is.
This why you can't idolize him, he is no JCC.
Re: This is the guy that Mayweather is "afraid" of?
It's still not easy, you have to have the skill level and you still have to take those shots that both Cotto and Mosley got hit with.
With that said, I saw 120-108 from the beginning it's simply the wrong style. Mayweather wouldn't have bothered fighting Margarito the way Mosley did though. It's annoying when you edit your post just to say something prickish. Saying you can't idolize him just takes away from all your other points, not sure why you would want that.
Re: This is the guy that Mayweather is "afraid" of?
Mayweather would stop him too. Margarito is nothing special and Shane proved it.
Re: This is the guy that Mayweather is "afraid" of?
Styles make fights, and it turns out Shane has the right style to beat Tony. One bad defeat does not make Tony overrated, he just lost to the better man tonight. Make no mistake he is still one of the best Welterweights in the world. He has already proved that. He deserves credit for fighting the best like a true champion. As for Shane, this is a great win to add to his HOF resume. By far one of his biggest wins and best performances.

Finally, can I stop hearing about this damn Margarito? lol. Staples Center sure was quiet. I'm so glad Shane whooped his ass.
Re: This is the guy that Mayweather is "afraid" of?
I guess anyone who uses illegal hand wraps has an advantage over his opponent. Cotto will come back and own Tony for this.
Tony has been EXPOSED as a cheater. End of but I am very sorry to hear this happen because it took away from a great Champion in Cotto.

Margarito is terribly overrated, it wasn't just styles that make fights, Mayweather would own him. Margarito doesn't hit that hard, HE CAN be hurt, he needs to be allowed to throw punches.
I wrote what I did after the first round. I am not sure if I said, but I also said after Margarito-Cotto this is exactly how Cotto should have foughten Margarito.
The fact is Cotto is a million times better than Margarito, he just fought the wrong fight against the wrong opponent, and he isn't super durable.
Re: This is the guy that Mayweather is "afraid" of?
More skilled doesn't mean better. I agree and I do think Cotto has way more skills and I'm partial to guys with more skill then the guys who just gut forward but damn, give him a little credit for being a fighter who's been able to have a lot of success in a tremendously skilled division.

No losing because your styles don't match up doesn't make you worse. Cotto beat Mosley, he had a way closer fight with Margarito than Margarito had with Mosley. Paul Williams isn't that great, and he beat Margarito and IMO would doso again. Mayweather would beat Margarito, as would Pacquiao, maybe even Berto.

Now your just drinking the kool-aid,Mosley even at this stage is lightyears ahead of Berto...and a Pacquioa at about 150,that what they come in at with Margarito.Williams will never again rome at Welter, prior to and after tonight.
Re: This is the guy that Mayweather is "afraid" of?
Margarito would never catch Pacquiao in the ring, and Mosley isn't light years ahead of Berto, I hope they fight next so Berto can prove it.

mayweather would win but he wouldnt stop him...he doesn't hit nearly as hard as shane and would probably break his hand if he tried...mayweather 119-109
Re: This is the guy that Mayweather is "afraid" of?
If Mayweather were to come back and actually take the fight, I think he would beat Margarito on points pretty comfortably- but NOT even come close to knocking him out. Above 140 he fights very smart (some might say boring) when he's fighting naturally bigger men - not the case against a blown up 140 pounder.
But he's retired and I hope he stays retired unless he fights at 140 or below, because above this weight he fights too "smart" for my taste.
Props to Shane Mosley for a incredible performance and to both fighters for making the fight happen.

mosley would walk berto down and stop him...Shane only has two fights he should take....floyd or the pac-hatton winner...other than that he has nothing to prove anymore...best light weight this side of duran..and for his fights with vargas, delahoya, winky, mayorga, cotto, margarito, he's easily one of the best fighters p4p top 20.. all time
