Margarito was weight drained
I'm not making excuses for Margarito's loss, but one his managers, Franciso Espinoza, claims that after Tony's win over Cotto, he had traveled to several countries and packed on some weight. Apparently he had trouble taking off the weight for the fight.
He weighed in under 147, but they said it was very tough on him and that they are going to consult a nutritionist and discuss the possibility of moving him up to 154.
they still want a rematch with Cotto, so maybe they'll go once more at 147. They claim he's too big to keep fighting at 147 for much longer and that his body is taking a toll.
Margarito didn't look even close to 100%. I think Mosely would have beat him at 100% regardless after seeing the performance, but he definitely looked out of it.
Re: Margarito was weight drained
he was drained of the weight of plaster casts ;)

Margarito could have been at 154 and he probably still would have taken the beating he took. There ain't no weight that could have won that fight for Tony. It was a bad style match up.
Re: Margarito was weight drained
Meh. Margarito should be fighting at 154 anyway, too bad Daniel Santos chased him back to WW

This is MArgarito's 2nd excuse. Last week they were blaming his loss on eye surgery which he supposedly had a week before the fight. I thought they would stick with that one.
Re: Margarito was weight drained
Marg has to stay at Welter, he has to use his size and strength at the higher weight he would be ineffective, like Hatton is at Welter.
Also do not believe Marg was cheating. He never was a fighter that relied on one punch power and never had that freaking power that a certain Puerto Rican great use to have.;)
Re: Margarito was weight drained
must have known he was gonna lose in advance to blame it on eye surgery last week, cause the fight was just Saturday, jackass
Re: Margarito was weight drained
I guess a guy being broken down and thrashed inside and out just is not enough for some around here!?Did Tony say this or his Manager?
It really wouldn't have mattered.Mosley was on point, too fast and too strong.Oh and Bookkeeper.......Santos didnt chase shite out of 154,that was nip & tuck until the cut came.

Have you actually seen the 2nd fight? Margarito was more than holding his own (many people feel he should have won that fight) against an extremely underrated fighter who held a significant size advantage over him.
Re: Margarito was weight drained
I use to be a Margarito fan before the plaster loading incident. But in all honesty, I did think he looked weight drained. But it does not matter because that is one of the factors in this sport. Cutting weight properly and choose the proper weight to perform at. And I think for Margarito to be effective significantly he needs to be the bigger guy. 154 or higher would make him out to be an above average journeyman. Technically, he is very flawed.
Re: Margarito was weight drained
Funny that. I use to be a Mosley fan until he admitted injecting drugs into his blood stream.
Re: Margarito was weight drained
Lol !!! Margarito weight drained, hell some say mosely was overweight. Margarito was drained all right.....as soon as lost that two pounds of plaster nails and whatever the hell else he stuffed in those gloves. This freakin guy cheated, got his ass beat, Ko'ed etc.....i doubt anyone wants to hear about his training problems. He looked pretty damn spiffy hoppin down to the ring before hand
Re: Margarito was weight drained
Speed kills. The protagonists, Moseley representing speed, and Margarito for slowness, operated on two different speeds. The "slower" got hit a lot more. The "faster" (knowing how to maximize the use of that speed advantage) got to hit more.
Same scenario in absorbing damages. Faster- less damage, slower -more damage, because of the same reason. Speed.
Eventually, the one getting more damaged... became less performing thereby breaking down and predictably, losing before the end. Knocked Out!
The weight drained issue... has no legs, it needs crutches!
Re: Margarito was weight drained
weight drained or not.. he got sparked.
see, boxing is business. you know what fight you sign up for. you know what to do to prepare for a fight. if you trained properly(what you should do), you wont have a problem making weight. its not shanes fault if tony was weight drained. mosley had his own camp. he had his own issues to deal with and he still prepared for the fight. he came in 100% and tony didnt. he had the right fight plan and he executed it well. why take away somebody's credit for winning by saying his opponent was weight drained. same thing with pac.. they kept saying that odlh was weight drained or wutever. thats not pac's fault. surely, its not mosely's fault tony drained himself.
