What's the verdict?
IMO Saunders seemed to have the style best suited to pro, throws full bodied punches. A bit too eager, but most guys are for their debuts, also only 18yo, genuine prospect IMO.
Gavin and Degale will have more trouble shaking off amateur habits as they're older, if they can replicate the determination that mad them a success at amateur then hopefully they'll gradually progress. Degale's opponent was in a permanent turtle shell so hard to judge.
I think they all looked pretty good.
Gavin seemed to go up a few gears after the cut.. and looked much better for it.
Degale didn't deserve the boos ;D Looks like he's been watching plenty of Calzaghe :cool:
Th flurries looked a little stupid IMO, it's ok to emulate the stars, but why the hell emulate the stuff Joe got criticised most for. Didn't hear the boos, some twat had the jukebox on in the pub.Quote:

The booing started at the end of the 2nd round (i think). It clearly bothered him, he asked Jim McDonnell why are they booing. He's gonna need thick skin.

I was most impressed with Gavin after the cut. Before the cut i would say he was the most disappointing on the night.
LONG way to go for all of them. I'd bet on Darren Sutherland at the moment

Edit: so it was the peformance. Damn right he's gonna need thick skin if he insists on the arrogant persona. Turtle shell or not, Naz backed up his talk against the early guys by munching them.
Ah they all did what was necessary really, although I was a little annoyed with De Gale, for the slappy approach he sorta took...quite irritating!
I'm sure he'll figure it out n change his ways though :D

OK, I'm going to rank how well they'll do in their careers after seeing them have one professional fight. I expect to have totally changed my predictions after another few fights. :)
1. Saunders.
2. De Gale.
3. Gavin.
I think Tony Jeffries looked really good last night. Good jab, good balance and heavy handed. I'd like to see him do well considering he comes from the same part of the world as me.
I thought they all looked good to be honest, Saunders especially. My only concern about De Gale is his power, or lack of it! Considering his opponent just sat there taking everything you'd think he would have at least rocked him
As already said, the slapping was annoying too.
Also, are all the fighters south paw?
I think out of the 3 Degale has most work to do if he wants to make it in the pro's.He slaps alot his jab is poor and he follows through with his elbow sometimes.He was cocky before the fight not so cocky after it maybe he will learn not to be so cocky.
Watching it again i realised why the crowd turned on DeGale.. it was like going from watching Hatton (Gavin) to Witter. Without a serious dig he's in trouble.. and he needs to bin the Naz tapes.
BJS looked a real confident natural (i didn't see his first round last night).. although his punchbag seemed the worst of the three.
James DeGale is a fukking twat. Next Junior Witter IMO.
BJS looked the best out of them, though I didnt like him dropping his hands. Gavin was decent as well, he's gonna go far.
degale makes his own problems by bigging himself up too much and shouldnt moan when it backfires on him.
Of the 3 that fought saunders had the easiest of the opponents and gavin the toughest considering the guy he fought unlike the other 2 had won most of his pro fights.
degale danced around his man for 4 rounds and seemed quite happy to take a decision. I dont really see whats wrong with that as it was primarily an undercard fight.
But when he does start topping bills in 6-8 round contests that just will not do.:(
I think people would of been happy for Degale to win by decision it was the way he was before the fight saying he is the next big thing and it will be a walk in the park.I think he will be the next Audley Harrison only i recon at least Degale will go down fighting unlike Harrision.Quote:

Even a defensive minded JC would of just blown that guy out through sheer volume of punches within 2minutes.
No point throwing 70 odd punches a round if at least 10-12 of them arent thrown with serious intent!
