The middle CLASS American boxer is almost extinct in most states now
But John McCain and the ABC are coming on strong in 2009 ! Its sad
this sport used to be an American pass time now it's dirty politics
or a European sport ! Why is it so hard for this government to not
find something else today than destroy our sport has the middle class
American all ready suffered enough !Boxing is not a privileged but a

Professional Boxing Amendments Act of 2009 - Amends the Professional Boxing Safety Act of 1996 to:
(1) authorize a tribal organization to establish a boxing commission;
(2) prohibit arranging, promoting, or fighting in a match unless the match is approved by the United States Boxing Commission (USBC) and held in a state or on tribal land that regulates matches in accordance with USBC standards;
(3) require specified pre-fight boxer physical examinations and to require the continuous presence during any match of an ambulance and emergency medical personnel;
(4) provide for boxing registration with the appropriate boxing commission of an Indian tribe;
(5) require a health and safety disclosure to a boxer when issuing an identification card and to establish procedures for review of a summary suspension;
(6) require the USBC to develop guidelines for boxing contracting requirements and for rating professional boxers;
(7) require the sanctioning organization for a match and its promoter to provide specified disclosures;
(8 prohibit a promoter from arranging a championship match or a match scheduled unless all participating judges and referees are by the USBC;
(9) require the USBC to establish and maintain a registry of comprehensive medical records and medical denials or suspensions for every licensed boxer; and
(10) apply conflict-of-interest provisions to USBC officers and employees. Establishes the USBC within the Department of Commerce to:
(1) protect the health, safety, and general interests of boxers and to ensure integrity in professional boxing;
(2) establish standards for, and issue, suspend, and revoke, boxing licenses; and
(3) establish a national computerized registry of boxing personnel.

IF there is one unified boxing commission in the US, it wont belong until
fighter's have to wear headgear, fights can not exceed 4 rounds, and other stupid regulations that the Federal government will install because "they know better then you."
The good thing about the way boxing is now in the US is that if Nevada makes a ridiculous rule like Welterweights have to wear 12oz gloves, the promoters can choose a different state without the ridiculous rule.
The federal government screws up everything it touches, and there is no need to allow them to take control of boxing.

McCain always tries this back door tax shit, out here he was trying to tax the Indian Casinos.
I understand that the health of the fighters is involved here, and that is a noble thing, but it is also political posturing. If I honestly thought McCain was doing this for the benefit of the fighters I would support it, but this would no doubt be more paperwork, more cost and ultimately running through the motions.

When I started fighting in boxing in 94 !There was like 50 shows in
the state of Missouri a year . Now there is like 5 or 6 ! It is sad that
people cant die for this country in another land !But cant participate
in this sport in there own country, Freedom is something we are losing
a little bit everyday !

I don't get how it is postering, killersheep. It isn't like boxing is mainstream enough that it has an effect one way or another with the general population. I think he has a ligimate concern for the state of the sport, and is trying to get something done about it. We all agree it is fairly corrupt at present, that it has flaws, many of them that need fixing...so where do we begin? I mean, someone had to get the ball rolling.

I haven't examined this proposal thoroughly yet, but from what I understand, McCain is a big-time boxing fan and at least in the past, he has wanted to do good by boxing. Mind you, politically, I generally don't agree with him.

You are complaining about the waning popularity of the sport and that is about it. It is not like a sh|tload of regulation has got passed down the pipe since 94 regarding this sport. Only now they seem to be trying to integrate the sport as a single entity. It should actually help the sport in the long run, by providing better support for Boxers while knocking off the sleazy pimping 2 bit promoters. You should welcome this.

assign laws on the reservations.

I need to see what the USBC standards are to make judgement

Again the US should have no authority on the reservations.

I'm not clear on what this means, I can make a few different assumptions on what it means. Does this apply only to fighters fighting in the US?

Sounds good

This I am not fond of the commissions already do this on the state athletic board level, no need for redundancy ("pork")

I like the parts that protect boxers, I don't like the government having the final say as a sanctioning body, this is particularly silly because boxing is an international sport. And living in McCain's state for so many years, I have history to go on to not trust him. I do think that some standards should be implemented requiring medical personel and pre-fight medical exams I can get behind.

I appreciate your breakdown of it killersheep, for I don`t truly know it`s extent and am not saying McCain has it all correct, I just think he is doing it for the right reasons.
Just look at other professional sports in the US and Canada, Football. Baseball. Hockey, etc, etc. They seem to be getting on just fine with a standardized set of rules and seem to have a lot more legitimacy overall. So why not boxing? Why not one governing body that oversees it?
I can understand politic things such as indian affairs and what have you, people will always have political motivations and beliefs, but overall I don`t really care about that because my interests are far from political. I`d like to be able to watch a fight without the fear it is going to be a total rigged, ripped off decision because of behind the scenes whatever. I`d like to feel there is some sort of legitimacy in it in knowing it can`t be manipulated by agendas from so many varying levels. I`d like to have some assurance that whether I am watchin or participating in it, it is a fair and level playing field. A safe as possible place also.
For someone like myself right now, with half a brain who may or may not have a future in the sport, I gotta tell you, it is fairly discouraging seeing it in it current state.
