James Toney Has Not Convincingy Won A Fight Since Guinn In 2005
I just realized that. Since that fight he is 2-2-1 and 1 ND and the fights he did win were by SD. When you really think about it, he was never a force in the heavyweight division, but he managed to keep his name out there. I gotta give the guy credit, he may be one of the greatest self promoters of all time. Hes one of my favorite fighters and definately one of the most skilled of this generation by far, at 40 shouldnt be able to talk himself nto any more title fights. He should start promoting fighters or something, Hes got a bit of a Don King element to him.

I wish he would retire, He is way past it now.

He started so well in the heavyweight division, stopping Holyfield that takes some doing.

I just rewatched that fight recently and more and more Im thinking that holyfield was still effected by his shoulder injury at the time. He started very well in that fight. And Toney wasnt as past it then as he is now so he still had some speed. All those factors made it a tough fight for Holyfield. I do give him credit for that fight though.

Let's remember that Toney is a big fat old middleweight. When Toney was younger and in shape both mind and body, He was one of the best fighters in the last 20 years.
Re: James Toney Has Not Convincingy Won A Fight Since Guinn In 2005
You have to nobody has stopped him since as old as Holyfield is. Toney's body shots did the trick, classic fighter.
Re: James Toney Has Not Convincingy Won A Fight Since Guinn In 2005
It seems like right around after the fough Holyfield ad Ruiz he really got visibly older. Maybe its that he didnt train enough, or he just got old overnight or maybe his body just cant dish it out anymore. Its probably a combination of those things and being and undersized heavyweight. All the odds have been stacked against him for a few years now. He was a hell of a fighter though.
Re: James Toney Has Not Convincingy Won A Fight Since Guinn In 2005
He is still 1 of the toughest guys in the sport and by far 1 of the most avoided. He has never been knocked out or really ever took an ass whooping except from RJJ. If Holyfield can continue on and get title shots then why can't James Toney. I think if Toney can get a bigger fight then Fres or Peter then I think we will see a better more motivated fighter. I still think a Klitschko fight could still be interesting no matter which 1 he fights.

Toney has slipped back into inactivity and has probably put up a tent in McDonalds or something. He likes it there, he should just retire.
I love James Toney in a strictly non gay way, but it's true what's being said here. He hasn't impressed for a long while now. The Oquendo showing was lame, Toney had no second gear.

hell i'd bet on Toney any day of the week...........it's true that it'd have to be if he was involved in an eating contest of some kind but that's not the point ;D
Re: James Toney Has Not Convincingy Won A Fight Since Guinn In 2005
I forget didn't he beat Ruiz after he fought Guinn. Even though he was roided up it was a very dominant performance. Yes the second most overrated fighter in the past six years.
Re: James Toney Has Not Convincingy Won A Fight Since Guinn In 2005
Was the second Rahman fight taken away from him?
Either way he is a legimate contender in the HW division for awhile based on his draw with Rahman who at the time was one of the champs or considered one of the best heavyweights, and because he beat Holyfield, and he beat John Ruiz(though that was with steroids), then he went on to lose a close decision against Samuel Peter who was/is a highly ranked heavyweight.

He was on steroids to repair muscle damage in his arm. Sure they would have made him stronger, but they weren't the performance enhancement type, or used in hopes of making him a better fighter, it is something doctors use to heal muscles quicker.

I think he got shafted in the first Peter fight, beat Holyfield, and should have beaten Ruiz. It is a shame he never won a belt.

He also stopped Hasim Rahman, who is way past it.......but hell if David Haye fought the Rock it would have been a real test at HW.
