are Oasis the biggest ever band to not make it in america??
Undoubtedly the most succesful rock n`roll band of at least the last 20 years and are regarded in that manner pretty much the world over with god like status back in the UK.
But why exactly did Oasis never quite manage to crack america like the beatles/stones/u2 and all those great bands before them??
Why werent "wonderwall" and "dont look back in anger" hits stateside, why was arguably the 2 greatest albums of the 1990s "whats the story morning glory" "definitely maybe" flops over in the US?
Re: are Oasis the biggest ever band to not make it in america??
I liked their music fine..but I do remember them saying in an interview that they were going to be bigger than the beatles or something...Then I never really heard them again. During the early 90's they were also up against a real strong alternative rock movement such as Pear Jam, Nirvana and Sound Garden

is this a serious question? Oasis didn't crack america like the beatles because of timing. this is not 40 years ago.. COMPLETELY different scene.
On top of that, i wouldn't say they didn't "make it" in america. Everyone knows oasis, everyone has their CD's. It was the soundtrack to my middle school days.
Re: are Oasis the biggest ever band to not make it in america??
I don't know, but one thing is for sure, Manny Pacquiao could give them their worst ever beating.
Music radio/tv in America is all fucked up, I have no fucking clue what MTV, VH1, Fuse, etc are doing on TV and music on the radio was crap when it came out and 5 years later it's still crap.
Sure people like messing with me about liking The Darkness and all (The Darkness were way better than Crossfade, Nickleback, etc etc etc IMO) but honestly there are a ton of great bands who never get airplay on the radio or tv...KINGS OF LEON for one doesn't get any run on tv or the radio. Hell if I tried I couldn't even get The Hives, The Strokes, The Killers, or Electric Six on the radio but I would be hard pressed to not find Kid Rock on the radio.....WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?! Kid fucking Rock....can someone round him, Fred Durst, and Eminem up and shoot them into the Sun??
Right now, the internet is saving music through iTunes, Pandora, etc.
Oasis was ok...but just as a regular average joe American, we're kind of tired of the hype jobs coming out of England. Sure The Beatles were great, as were The Rolling Stones, The Who, etc etc etc. but for every big act to make it here in America there's another act to fall flat on their face. To put it in boxing terms for every Lennox Lewis there are a couple of Danny Williams, a couple Michael Sprotts, and a whole lot more Audley Harrison's
Re: are Oasis the biggest ever band to not make it in america??
Oasis was pretty fucking big in America (and here in Canada), however when their music started to become somewhat redundant, people lost interest. I absolutely love their first 3 cds (and the B-Sides Masterplan disk), I could probably list almost every song on them, but I completely lost interest after that because their music became boring and just the same old same old.
Re: are Oasis the biggest ever band to not make it in america??
Oasis didn't flop over here...
'Definently Maybe', 'What's the Story Morning Glory', and 'Be Here Now' went platinum here....Morning Glory hit platinum 4 times.
That's not flopping at all, they did very well.
I personally don't like the whiney music....I like Oasis and I like Radiohead but can't we have some happy music every now and then??? The good news is I like those bands better than Pearl Jam and Nirvana who were extremely depressing and annoying.
Re: are Oasis the biggest ever band to not make it in america??
Are they the band that had the song about an Aeroplane (real annoying and repititive)?
I remember the songs from like a decade ago. I think they were really successful. They didnt have anything revolutionary or the versatility to even be compared to the beatles. And I dont like the beatles.

Re: are Oasis the biggest ever band to not make it in america??
Yeah that wasnt the song I was talking about, but thanks.
Re: are Oasis the biggest ever band to not make it in america??
They got boring after a while, but they weren't a flop, definitely not with wonderwall and all of that, that was huge for a while, I still listen to Definitely Maybe every once in a while, everything else, no.
Re: are Oasis the biggest ever band to not make it in america??
Oasis were fantastic for a time, it fell apart for me with Be Here Now and they haven't quite got it back ever since. Always 4 good songs on each album though. I absolutely detest Wonderwall.

I detest Miles's bitching.

Come on now. It was only a mild bitch here, Booze. I've done far worse bitching than this. Be Here Now should have been ruled a NC.

I'm afraid I must disagree. Be Here Now, while not on the same level as ...Morning Glory or Definitely Maybe was still a very good album. It was the last good Oasis album IMO, and I'm Canadian so I would know :p.
