Rhodes pulls put of Small fight with a cold wtf?
British light middleweight champion Ryan Rhodes has withdrawn from his eagerly awaited March 28th title defence against Anthony Small after picking up a cold. The bout was due to be the co-main event at Hayemaker Promotions’ ‘Mersey Beatdown’ bill at the Liverpool Arena. And the challenger, Anthony Small, had some choice words for the stricken Rhodes..
“Rhodes has pulled out 2 weeks before the fight because he has a cold – a cold bless him.”
“He did not want to fight me. He is a coward. A punk with no heart. He knows what would have happened if he got in the ring.. lights out.”
Sheffield southpaw Rhodes was due to make the second defence of his British title after picking up a decision victory over Jamie Coyle in September.
Rhodes postpones clash with Small
Hayemaker Boxing regret to inform that the British light-middleweight title clash between Ryan Rhodes and Anthony Small, scheduled for March 28 in Liverpool, has been cancelled.
Current champion Rhodes was struck with the onset of a heavy cold at the beginning of this week and it has since curtailed his preparation and developed into a full-on infection.
Both Rhodes and Small were claiming to be in the best shape of their respective careers before an unfortunate bug kayoed Rhodes at the 11th hour. Champion and challenger will now look to resume hostilities at a later date.
Hayemaker Boxing hope to re-arrange the intriguing duel between Rhodes and Small in the coming months.
Meanwhile, the HAYEMAKER 6 show from the Echo Arena will go ahead as planned, with the all-Liverpool British title showdown between Tony Dodson and Tony Quigley as headliner.
Supporting Dodson-Quigley will be a lightweight eliminator battle between John Watson and Martin Gethin, a super-featherweight contest between Derry Mathews and Harry Ramogoadi, plus the pro debut of Olympic bronze medallist David Price.
A cold two weeks before the fight and he postpones it hahahahaha, bit fishy to me.

HE DID NOT WANT TO FIGHT ME, HE IS A COWARD, A PUNNK WITH NO HEART. HE KNOWS WHAT WOULD OF HAPPENED IF HE GOT IN THE RING.....LIGHTS OUT.
This does look suspicious, a cold TWO & HALF weeks before the fight is just a lil suspect in my book to be callin off a fight

Did anyone see that press conference? Rhodes looked like he was rattled in that.
Shame.. that bill looked really good at one point.

I reckon Rhodes wanted any excuse he could to get out of the fight. I think Small got into his head. Rhodes also knows his careers at a stage where he can't recover from a defeat, especially to someone like Anthony Small

Come on fighters fight with cold never mind pull out of a fight cos they catch a cold in training, he didnt want any part of Small.

Anybody who gets in a Ring with a cold gets what they deserve, He is just being senseable. It will happen, I lean towards Ryan in this one, He is so use to the style of Small was brought up with that type and Whacks harder.

Have to agree with Scrap. I've had colds where my nose hasn't stopped running for a week, my lungs hurt and walking up stairs makes me out of breath. Round Xmas I was flat out with a 'cold' for 3 weeks. And I'm sure you've all been rough with a cold as well. The last thing on your mind is doing something as intense as boxing.
Whether people believe him or not I'd prefer a fighter come in to a fight healthy than go through with a fight ill just to keep things smooth - then tell people about it and for the forums/papers to be full of, yeah he's making excuses because he got beat.

Whether or not it was a legit cold I fancied Rhodes (for the fight ;D) until i saw that press conference. Rhodes acted like he'd never heard any disrespectful shit-talk before. Surprising.
