Just finished watching Byrd vs Tua

And All I have to say is that he was awesome that night. Looking at the cropper of heavyweights nowadays I wish there were more fights like that. Many people say Byrd was a very boring fighter, and in some fights I'll have to agree with them, but not that night. On that night he was in a zone all his own, and that night you heard something you never thought you would, people cheering and chanting Byrd's name. I think after looking at a few Byrd fights that he was only boring when no one was trying violently to attack him. This fight shows that if he was in there with a fighter who was coming after him mercilessly that it would be a very exciting fight to watch. Thats my opinion but I think some of his stinkers were more of a result of someone not pressing it against him. Byrd was a natural counter puncher, so it seemed like he needed someone coming at him for it to be exciting. He was one of the best American Heavyweights to come down the pipe in a very long time back in those years. Considering he had came up from middleweight apparently to have done so well, deserves more respect :twocents: and since our one saving american grace to the heavyweight division currently is chris arreola... I thought i'd show some of these old clips of the younger heavyweight division

But I thought i'd show you a few uploaded clips of the tua and byrd fight, just so some people can see him at his best. Honestly, I never really caught on to him until the Holyfield fight so watching this fight instead of just highlights really opened up my eyes more to him.

I had to order that fight because they didnt show in this Country at the time.

Probably Chris Byrds finest display and best name on his resume ( minus the retirement of Vitali ) Davids feet were too slow to get him into position but nothing new there.

Great thread Majesty... And yes it was a great boxing clinic Byrd put on that night. Byrd has always had that hit or miss career in the Heavies and he was right on target that night and the Holyfield night as well. I still think Manny P would beat Bryd at catchweight though. LOL:tease-new:

Yeah,one of Byrds best showings.Tua was taylor made for him,he fought alot of stocky forward types and shined against em.I thought he really hurt Tua bad to the body in the 6th.Man I miss Bobby Czyz as a commentator,thought he was solid.Nice look back

Byrd exploited ever weakness in Tua's game and looked great doing it. It should be time for him to retire I think, I see he's giving Cruiserweight another shot this weekend on the Klitschko/Gomez undercard, so if he drops this one he should fully be out of options. Really nice guy though, he would make a decent announcer.

Byrd had a good plan and executed it, but every time I see that fight I always feel that it was more Tua looking bad than Byrd looking great.
