Looks like Jones isn't retiring then.
Just read this on Fightnews, not good news. It can only mean he'll go for Hopkins the man he comfortably beat in his younger days.
Hometown hero and former four-division world champion Roy Jones Jr., (53-5, 39 KOs) outclassed Omar Sheika (27-9, 18 KOs) in winning a fifth round TKO in a light heavyweight clash on Saturday night at the Pensacola Civic Center in Pensacola, Florida. Jones was in command the whole way. Referee Tommy Kimmons waved it off almost immediately after Jones cut Sheika over the right eye. Time was 1:45. Jones adds the vacant NABO 175lb belt to his many world title straps. “I want to give thanks to Pensacola in the house,” Jones announced from the center of the ring after the fight. “I felt really good. I’m ready. With my father, Coach Merk and my team I’m more comfortable. Do you want me back? (Roy asked the crowd that responded with a thunderous yes). I’ll be coming back.”
Don't do it Roy.
Re: Looks like Jones isn't retiring then.
I think Jones should stick to fighting Sheika level fighters in his hometown if he has to continue fighting. I would agree that if he fights Hopkins or even Dawson level opponents he is going to get hurt.....
Even fighting bums he is going to take shots to the head and that could mess him up over time.
If he insists on fighting upper level fighters I would love to see him fight and KO Tarver and than retire but that is probably wishful thinking....;D;D
Re: Looks like Jones isn't retiring then.
RJJ shouldn't fight B-Hop...it's just going to be a tragic tragic fight. B-Hop has gotten a lot better with age and RJJ has fallen off with each fight he has had since the Ruiz fight.
The RJJ-Hopkins fight was a very timid fight by both fighters...I doubt B-Hop respects RJJ's power anymore and I don't think RJJ's speed and reflexes are good enough to avoid Hopkins' power.
Re: Looks like Jones isn't retiring then.
Its kind of sad, Roy asking the crowd if they want him back. It sounds so desperate. Roy just needs to feel relevant. He does does deserve some credit for his performance though.

I think opponents like Shieka are pretty much the only kind of fighter he can rack up wins against and look good doing it. But asfar as fighting at the top again, hell have minimal sucess. Especially cause he lays on the ropes so much. Sheika was the right guy, but to Jones credit he did look good. I mean he really couldnt have outclassed Sheika any more than he did.
Re: Looks like Jones isn't retiring then.
Roy Jones needs to fight the best fighters out there. He needs to know whether he has it or not.

Fucksakes, dont get upset about it, no ones forcing him to do it:rolleyes:
Im sure theres more important things to worry about than a multi millionaire animal abuser making a few more million;D
This reminds me of when Holyfield had his licence taken away, what the fuuck for?
Look how many journeymen are out there whove gone dozens of fights whithout a win, I really dont know what the justification in that was, if it was because he wasnt as good as he used to be then hands up anyone from anywalk of life and any trade, who would be out of a job if they arent as good as they were when they were in their twenties?
Re: Looks like Jones isn't retiring then.
I dont see the problem, hes still a very good fighter overall, he proved that yesterday in totally outclassing a reasonable opponent. Its not like hes losing to bums and fighting on or anything. Yeah against real top opposition he may well lose but so what if he wants to go for it.
Re: Looks like Jones isn't retiring then.
Personally, if Jones really wants another title shot, let him have it with Dawson.
Chad has done well against the plodders hes faced, he may well have a bit of trouble with Jones speed, I certainly thought hed had trouble handling Calzaghes speed, style and non stop work, Hopkins did and I think Hopkins beats Dawson.
Re: Looks like Jones isn't retiring then.
If Jones still has ambition to be a champion again he shouldnt of been in a ring with Shieka,Shieka got stopped in his prime by Calzaghe years ago.
Re: Looks like Jones isn't retiring then.
In your late 30's and further,no one is what they once were and the majority have to make life style/career alterations. The difference is that most of us don't exchange punches and get hit in the face for a living.Jones jr. and some fans are going to convince themselves that he is ready and able to succeed at the top,and I think Jones is playing with fire. His game has always been, reflex, speed, athleticism and his are very much eroded to a point that he is now talking about "hanging in there and not quitting, having the biggest heart in the ring,so I have a cut & blood in my eye..I can see with the other one"....He was too good a Champion and is too smart a man to go out like this !!!

Here is a bit of the fight if anyone wants to see.
Re: Looks like Jones isn't retiring then.
The stoppage looked premature.
