The hand wrappings confiscated from former world welterweight champion Antonio Margarito minutes before his scheduled title defense against Shane Mosley in January contained calcium and sulfur, two of the primary elements of plaster of Paris, a state Department of Justice laboratory reported in documents obtained by The Times today.
Hardened gauze pads that were inserted inside the wrappings around Margarito's knuckle area were seized Jan. 24 after Mosley's trainer Nazim Richardson objected to their use.
Margarito proceeded to lose his title in a ninth-round technical knockout by Pomona's Mosley, and the California State Athletic Commission subsequently revoked the licenses of the Tijuana fighter and his trainer, Javier Capetillo, and the pair will likely not be allowed to fight in the U.S. until next year.
A Department of Justice senior criminalist who inspected the wrappings under stereomicroscope and X-ray flourescence spectrometer reported calcium and sulfur were discovered, noting the elements make plaster of Paris with the addition of oxygen. The report was dated March 19. "The commission's decision appears to be supported by that report," said Karen Chappelle, the state supervising deputy attorney general for licensing who urged the California commission to revoke the fighter and trainer's licenses. "The only things that are allowed in hand wraps are gauze and tape and those items aren't gauze and tape."
Chappelle said Margarito and Capetillo have yet to appeal their revocations, although Margarito promoter Bob Arum has said he'd like the boxer to return to the ring in Mexico later this year.
Arum had no immediate response to the findings, saying, "I'd have to see [the report]."

Re: Inside Margaritos Hand Wraps
Yeah he should receive a life ban, but he wont.....
Just like any other crime you have to kill someone before they really penalize you....
Re: Inside Margaritos Hand Wraps
He should be banned for life and his trainer too but it still won't stop me watching the rematch with Cotto.

Re: Inside Margaritos Hand Wraps
FUCK MARGACHEATO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :furious2:
Remember everyone, there is still a chance that he could have his license revoked for life, because when they handed down their decision before, they stated that it was for a minimum of 1 year, and that they would take the test results into consideration. So it's not over for him.
The State of California just this week suspended ALL amateur boxing in the state because of problems, so it seems they are cracking down big time on boxing. Here's a link in case you want to read about that.
Say it Aint' So
So this gives me hope that this mutha fucka won't be able to fight in the states ever again. He should not be allowed to earn anymore money here, or anywhere else.
He had no regard for his opponents life, or their potential career ending injuries he could have given them, and he deserves no fuking mercy!!!
And if Arum, continues to support him, and tries to get him fights in Mexico, that will really piss Cotto off, and it will be bye, bye Top Rank for Cotto when his contract is up at the end of this year.
As long as Margarito is banned, Cotto will not fight him.
Re: Inside Margaritos Hand Wraps
He should be encarsarated.
Re: Inside Margaritos Hand Wraps
I would like to encourage everyone to let the commission know that they should permanently revoke Margacheato's license.
They don't have an email address, but there's three ways you can file a complaint.
First you can submit one in writing to the below address.
California State Athletic Commission
2005 Evergreen Street, Suite 2010
Sacramento, CA 95815
Attn: Complaint Administrator
Or you can call (916) 263-2195 and press "8" on the dial pad, or fax your complaint to (916) 263-2197.
You know I will be giving them an ear full. :furious2:
Also, please post the above information on any other boxing forum that you may visit. ;D
Re: Inside Margaritos Hand Wraps
I am going to write them Diane to urge the Commission for compassion and understanding for a first offense.

You would. :shakehead:
Would you be so compassionate if it was any other fighter? I doubt it. Especially, if someone used loaded wraps against Margacheato.

When Miguel gets thru with Margacheater, there will be nothing left of him. I can't wait for the rematch and the redemption that will come with it. Cotto will stop Margapuzzy in 5 rounds. With out the plaster, Margaputo is nothing more than a human punching bag and hits no harder than Malignaggi. I wonder how many excuses Arum, Margarito and team Margarita will come up with as to why the rematch should not take place. ;D
Re: Inside Margaritos Hand Wraps
Clearly,we need more Pacquiao threads :-X
Re: Inside Margaritos Hand Wraps
I think he did use the wraps vs. Cotto.

So do I mate, the damage to Cotto's face was immense when you take into consideration the amount of punches he took. As soon as he got hit by Margo he looked in pain and in trouble.
