vid review or at least a partial one
i recently picked up the series boxing for mma by the straight blast gym int. it is geared towards mma ,but before you all groan and piss and moan there are some decent footwork and jab ,hook power advice, lots of excercises for the trainers and plenty of food for thought. most trainers in boxing are locked into a dogmatic run 20 miles a week at a liesurly pace, and won't even look at how another guy trains, but this is something that is worth viewing. btw i know someone will complain about the running but i know at least 7 pro fighters that never run distance, they do sprint and they do have huge gas tanks..more food for thought.

Sprints are far better then distance running for boxing cardio, if one had to choose imo. I specify boxing cardio because I think it both helps increase the gas tank and works on explosiveness which is also required. A marathoner might look at differently.
When at my peak in cardio, I feel it is largely due to sprinting, usually tabata with some hills mixed in. I still like to mix in a bit of distance running but moreso just to break the monotony as I find all running an extreme bore.

I don't know anybody in boxing who thinks that a long distance aerobic slog is better than a middle distance run with plenty of intense anaerobic bouts of sprinting ice.

Anything in Sport is about Recovery.Long runs Kill legs ;D
Re: vid review or at least a partial one
well sadly here in d.c. they see it fifferent...they go old school and want to do marathons..i've seen video of guysthat run marathons quit 1 minute into a sparring session due to lack of gas...so i agree with you three..lsd kilss...in more ways than one.
Re: vid review or at least a partial one
plenty of people just pass on what they were taught and have observed. With more sports science folk geting involved things are changing slowly.
I was thinking about this the other day, I read on another forum that someone was questioning the use of high rep ab work/medicine balls being hit in your gut;D (maybe another thread..).
I'm considering that a number of these drills are more to do with mental conditioning than physical.
Yes sprints are hard work and can make you puke but I'd prefer that than going for a distance run. For me it's mentally tougher to get up for that.

Re: vid review or at least a partial one
iceman, have you watched Don Familton's videos? I believe he's with Straight Blast as well.
Re: vid review or at least a partial one
yes i like Familton, but the more i watch the boxing for mma vids i realize he is training a trainer not so much a fighter that wants that knowledge..very useful body mechanics and some very good angling work as well as drill to keep that jab a viable tool even when you are off balance or just no quite set...nice 4 point variation on just the jab
