2010 another Star Wars series

Ok I know I'm way behind the curve here. Apparently, George Lucas is putting a new Star Wars series on HBO. The time frame is in between
Episode III and Episode IV. Lucas himself described it as "Deadwood
meets the Sopranos in space". The main thrust of the show is the gaining
of power of the empire and the subsequent hunting down the jedi. Most
of the focus of this show is from minor characters in the movies and novels. I'm not sure how I feel about this, I'm glad that Star Wars is
finally going the direction of a more adult audience. At the same time,
Episode I was one of the biggest dissapointments of all time for me.
If Jar Jar Binks even has a minor role, I might not watch it.

I didn't mind Episode 1 I thought it was the best of the newer 3 that came out although I did hate on Jar Jar in a big way. I spek.

No this is going to be live action, HBO style (more adult) themed.

I don't think it's getting blood from a stone/beating a dead horse etc.

There are 100s of games/graphic novels/books and cartoons that all expand the universe and have made it more than just the films anyway.

Sorry but... no!

He managed to fuck up enough just by trying to make minor tweaks to the films when they were getting remastered/extra special effects... leave them alone Lucas!! ;)

Personally (seeing as people have mentioned Episode One, I'll give my take on it) I didn't think that Episode One was that bad, if you took away Ja Ja Binks then it wasn't bad at all and if he'd maybe not made Anakin like the star of some fucking Cartoon Network show and maybe beefed the film it then it could of held it's head high with the others...

Episode 2... urgh. Again not really that bad of a film but the 'romance' between Padme and Anakin is just awful... absolutely dire.

Episode 3 was the shit though... as with Episode 2 you had to cope with Hayden Christianson but even so I loved it... better than return of the jedi in my book.

Nothing beats Empire though, like all the other films but Empire is one of my top.

HBO typically sets the bar high for all their shows and they've had some great ones.


I dont see how this show would work. I think lucas has went kind of crazy with money or power or being surrounded by yes men or something. CGI everything, piss poor scripts and what not.


Although, the 35 year old virgin computer programmer demographic may be enough to make this a hit.

The original films have rightly gone down in history as the greatest truimph of space sci fi ever.

The three more recent films were shit though, I hated all of them.

Thing is a lot of it is nostalgia. When the original Star Wars came out those of us in our 30's were all kids and we fucking loved it. The special effects were lightyears ahead of anything else at the time as well.

Now the new ones come out, we are all a lot older so the childishness of the series and over simplistic good vs evil themes bore us and nobody cares about special effects in films any more as computers have advanced so much any movie with a half decent budget can have stunning effects.

The names like Dooku and Darth Sidius etc just annoy me and I think they all suck.


Having said that the new Star Trek might turn out to be pretty good. Trailers look fun and in my case I have no nostalgia for Star Trek having always found it a bit pants although I'm sure Trekies will hate the new show, maybe rightly.


Just to end this let me say the greatest sci fi ever made was Aliens The Extended Edition. Ok so they ballsed it up by bring out Alien 3 and 4 and the travesties that were Alien vs Predator 1 & 2 but Aliens was the shit.

yeah the original 3 i loved as a kid & still do, i watched with my daughter & she loved the film(she is 5 yrs old) she loved all the creatures & special effects just like i did when i was a kid
