Why people need to consider Marquez a threat for PBF

PBF is undoubtedly my favorite fighter in boxing right now, and second ever next to RJJ, but this is why Marquez is a live threat.

1. Speed: Sure Mayweather is super fast, but he is defensive first. Marquez is the second fastest guy he will have ever been in the ring with, and unlike Oscar or Judah when they fought Mayweather, he will throw back when he gets hit, and with astonishing accuracy.
2. Output: We saw Marquez throw a ton of punches against Diaz, if Mayweather fights too defensively, we will see him unable to return fire against Marquez.
3. Skill: Marquez is clearly the best fighter Mayweather has ever faced. He's not as technically skilled as Mayweather or as hard to hit, but he counters beautifully and makes up for his lack of defense in offensive skill, not only that but he also has a great chin, and I think its more than up to the task to withstand Mayweather's power.
4. Sharpness: Mayweather has been out of the game for awhile, Marquez's greatest skill is how sharp he is, he jumps on every oppertunity with supreme confidence, this could be his downfall against the fast counter punching Mayweather, but if Mayweather comes in anything less than the sharpest he has ever been than he is in trouble.

Mayweather gets caught up in his own skill, and doesn't really push to win rounds, while Marquez is a warrior who will do anything possible to win rounds and fights, that could be a huge factor in this fight. Mayweather could be doing great defensive work, but if he doesn't throw punches then he won't win rounds, and he will fight IMO differently in this fight in order to win. I think we could see a more exciting fight than most people are expecting.

I think Mayweather might have enough juice on his punches to rattle Marquez. He's always been underrated in that regard, I think. I agree with everything else, though - JMM could possibly be the biggest test Floyd has had so far. Definitely a tough "warmup" fight!

Some good points above...but i see this as an somewhat easy pre fight for floyd without fighting an all out bum. Marquez is a badass and brings a lot to the table but not as much as floyd. I mean he's fast but floyds faster, strong but floyds gonna be stronger, smart but floyds smarter so on and so forth. I think this is a somewhat decent test for floyd but belive me as money hungry as floyd is there is no way he would take a chance on missing out on a payday possibly the biggest of career by fighting someone he isn't 180 % sure he's gonna win. But he'll do his best to convice us there's a chance he can loose to get some change out of out ppv pockets. This fight is a excuse fest waiting to happen.

You make the same points for Roy Jones against Calzaghe though, Roy still had the faster hands, better reflexes, much better cleaner punches. But there has to be something said for tenacity, and Marquez has way more of that then Mayweather. I mean Mayweahter is a warrior, he will take a punch to dish one out, I just think as he's gone up in weight he has gotten more and more gunshy, which he can't be against Marquez who IMO could be quick enough to capatilize on Mayweather's unwillingness to fight.

Cotto didn't need to be as fast as Mosley to land at will on him, I know Mayweather is a completely different story, but Marquez has a lot more speed than other guys who have landed on Mayweather. Also I think Pacquiao hits considerably harder than Mayweather after the De La HOya and Hatton fight, and Marquez went down against Pacquiao but for hte most part was able to take Manny's punches. Granted I think part of that was that he didn't let Manny hit him at the perfect range very often which he won't be able to control the same way against Floyd. People forget Floyd sparring with Spadafora while he wasn't training, or when he fought Emmanuel Burton after 7 months off, I am just saying Floyd better get the best sparring partners in there. I think Amir Khan would be perfect, but Roach would likely never allow it.

I see Marquez as a big threat to Mayweather. He is a really intelligent boxer who can adapt and WILL find a way to land his shots.

He throws beautiful, awkward counters and although I don't think it will be a particularly exciting fight, I do think it will be an interesting one between 2 of the most intelligent 'boxers' out there.

I mean he landed plenty on Pac and look at the speed difference there? I know Mayweather is better defensively but I do see it being an interesting one.

Marquez' only disadvantage is the weight and his speed (which he turns into an advantage with his timing)

I like JMM's chances agaisnt floyd. Mayweather is obviously the faster of the two, but as of late a one handed fighter it seems. The past few fights it seems like floyd has thrown out a nice jab but then retreats to his philidelphia shell style. With JMM's aggressivness and accurate counter punching, i think he's got an excellent shot. He's smart and picks up steam as the fight goes on. I dont think Mayweather is strong enough to put him away, I mean look what he took from diaz, "everything but the kitchen sink". I've kinda got a felling that Mayweather will be looking past JMM to Pacquiao because of his ego, and he better watch out because his opponet is one of the best in the world! Im gonna go out on a very small limb all by myself and say that JMM pulls out a victory to shock the world!

I don't see Marquez beating Mayweather but I will so be pulling for him to do so. I believe Marquez can take advantage of Floyd in the early rounds while he tries to shake off the ring rust. Marquez has the tools and the skills to win this one, but how will his body react to fighting at 144?

I want the Marquez win because it would only make a third fight with Manny that much bigger. Also on the other end, the storylines and hype for a Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight would be out of this world!! Either way, whoever wins this fight will be on route to the biggest fight this decade!!

It'll be a competitive lopsided fight. Mayweather will win. But no way he knocks out Marquez

Jm has a good beard ,he will be hungry for this more than Floyd will be.

If he can somehow make Floyd come at him then he may catch Floyd in rethinking mode; cause Floyd is great at reading and dealing with people as they are comming so he 's got you fully read and his style covers ,interrupts then deals out. Reverse that a few times and you may have an opening to go on.
I think Floyd may stop him though,he'll have Jmm under a microscope even now.

I fancy Mayweather by decision or maybe even a late stoppage. It's hard to tell as JMM has never fought anybody of Floyds size and Floyds punch power is way underrated. I remember him smashing Corrales all over the ring and decking him at will, you don't do that without power.

Early on though, maybe up until the 5-6 round i see it being very close. But this is when Mayweather seems to get around any riddle thrown at him and start taking over and I see the same in this fight.

As for the hardest fight of his career? Nah I don't see it unless he has lost quite a bit in his layoff. Oscar De La Hoya caused him quite a lot of trouble especially in the early rounds and made his size advantage count a bit. The thing was then, it was not the super weight drained Oscar that fought Pac but a big in shape legend that was up for it in a big way in the biggest fight of the new century to date!

Can Marquez carry his speed and power at 144? Will he be able to take a good punch from Mayweather? Is he smarter than Floyd?

Tough fight for Marquez. But the pressure is on Floyd.

When he fought Casa i saw him carry his power when he decked Casamayor and also Diaz who both never been decked before.
As for speed in the Casa fight Marquez looked a lil slower than usual but in the Diaz fight he look the same as ever.
But at 144 who knows? we'll never see until fight night.

Very much want to be wrong and eat my words come fight night.I hope Marquez beats the shine off of him.But I think Mayweather will take a wide decision.I doubt Mayweather has been sitting on a sofa getting soft,no doubt getting in some ring work and waiting for the perfect opportunity to pounce,on what he perceives to be a big relevant name tied to Pacquiao,cynical I know,...but at the same time a great (Floyd calls him 'good') fighter in his twilight who has become much more aggressive and a forward fighter rather than relying equally on technique and a master countering game.JMM is more susceptible to taking shots as a consequence and the years,weight and wars have accumulated.Marquez is thickly packed at 135 and I think 144 is just waaaaaay to much to ask.Without a doubt,he'll loose speed.He will def have to pressure Mayweather and will be pure warrior & never stop....Floyd who has never been shy with the backfoot and pot-shot game.I think Floyds slicing shots and flurries can really do some facial damage on that skin.Just dont like this match.

I am not a PBF fan. He fights at 147, but he only fights fighters who naturally fight at lower weight classes. He is, however, undeniably good. It follows that he will beat Marquez easily.

The reasons you stated for the why the fight will be closer than expected are all valid reasons for why Marquez is a solid fighter, but the fact is that PBF will be too big. It's not like he is big and slow; he is big and fast. Faster than Marquez. Bigger and faster? I give Marquez little to no chance. That said, good for Marquez, he deserves this pay day.

Yeah but it seems to me that Floyd has become somewhat lazy in the ring. He likes to just lay back and pot shot, when was the last time he's really had to work 3 minutes of every round? I think JMM will put the pressure on him, but it's not like Hatton pressure where it's a lot of holding and mauling. He will be punching with accuracy. Floyd obviously has the advantage, but JMM just might give him all he can handle. I like this fight.
