Apparently Roy Jones Jr wants to jump to MMA...
Re: Apparently Roy Jones Jr wants to jump to MMA...
And the Roy Jones circus continues =)
Re: Apparently Roy Jones Jr wants to jump to MMA...
Jones used to be my favorite boxer and I would still stay that I am a 'hardcore' fan but... well, he should ride the sunset before it gets anymore embarrassing, fighting washed out boxers instead of admitting that he doesn't have what it takes anymore to become champion again in the weight categories he used to be once the uncontested King of kings. Why the hell does he want to fight a MMA fighter at boxing? it,s ludicrous, even if he just does that for the publicity, it's embarrassing.

I agree. If he was like Larry Holmes and fighting Butterbean at 52 years old I could put up with it. But this is a joke.

thing is it says he's willing to go with MMA rules and possibly make a full jump to the sport :-\
Re: Apparently Roy Jones Jr wants to jump to MMA...
Why is a boxer trying to go into MMA a joke?
Don't know how much of the story is legit and how many is opinion. Isn't Roy Jones supposed to be fighting Jeff Lacy soon?
Re: Apparently Roy Jones Jr wants to jump to MMA...
If I were an MMA organization, I'd turn down Roy too because what have they got to gain? It's a lose/lose for them. If Roy gets stopped he can say he was never an MMA fighter & is really way past his prime in boxing anyway. But if he won, how would that look for MMA? A boxer past his prime beats a trained MMA fighter.
I saw Shaq might try MMA now too. That would look terrible for MMA if he did well in MMA too. A guy retires in his main sport & takes up MMA as a hobby & still does well - what would that say about the full time MMA fighters?

Whats wrong with a boxer in mma? Boxing is an aspect of MMA too its called "Mixed Martial Arts" which means all of them and boxing falls into that category. I wish people would stop trying to seperate boxing and MMA when boxing falls into an MMA category :)

it's a joke cause Jones shouldn't be competing in the sport he was great at, much less one he's never tried, and start as a professional on that note :-\, sorry Jones should just go ahead and coach his kids youth basketball team or something

From the article it doesn't look like he wants to make a career out of it though. But fight someone like Nick Diaz or Anderson Silva. Most of the rest of the article seems like heresay imo.
And it's not as bad as when Tyson wanted to fight bob sapp :-X
I do think Roy should retire.
But the thought that a boxer going to MMA should be considered as a joke I strongly disagree with

There's nothing wrong with it but why do you think they won't let him in? He's one of the most famous boxers around so a big name like his could only help MMA unless they're worried he'd come in & beat a guy who's been doing MMA for years.

it's too much of a gamble, if they win you know they'd gloat that a MMA fighter beat a boxing legend, hell they almost started when Ray Mercer tried, and he's hardly legendary lol, but if Jones wins, against Silva nonetheless than that would be a very bad day for the UFC and all of MMA, their Manny Pacquiao being beaten by a faded IMO shot fighter who once WAS great
