Whats your opinion of Frankie Gavin?
Im not sold on the guy to be honest, i know its hard to judge at such an early stage but in both his fights so far i havent seen anything that leads me to believe we have a gem on our hands, his defense looks a bit ropey and his power for me looks non existant, maybe im being a bit harsh as hes only two fights in, but if i had to put money on anyone out of the three to go the furthest it would be Saunders.
Re: Whats your opinion of Frankie Gavin?
no i totally agree even tho im yet to see his second fight, apparently he was tipped to be the best of the bunch but i dont see it,like u say saunders looks the best bet in my opinion, its still early tho to be fair, so i suppose well have to wait and see, but to be honest i was expecting alot more from gavin than what i have seen so far as a pro
Re: Whats your opinion of Frankie Gavin?
Give him time. He just needs to let his boxing do the talking and learn from the mistakes of Audley.
Re: Whats your opinion of Frankie Gavin?
Too early to say really but he is looking alright so far.
Re: Whats your opinion of Frankie Gavin?
any vid, i aint seen him at all.
Re: Whats your opinion of Frankie Gavin?
I have a feeling he will turn into a typical Warren Boxing Organisation fighter.
Re: Whats your opinion of Frankie Gavin?
Its a bit early to judge , but so far he looks like he lacks genuine power , which will be a problem for him .
Re: Whats your opinion of Frankie Gavin?
Unfortunately he looks like a total powderpuff puncher, so anyone that thought he was the new coming, or cruising to world honours, is way off.
He also looks a bit nervy to me at the moment but that's most likely just his lack of experience. Shame he can't punch.
Re: Whats your opinion of Frankie Gavin?
His trainer claims he can be the British Pernell Whitaker in dealing with his lack of punching power
Re: Whats your opinion of Frankie Gavin?
After their first fights I ranked them
Saunders
De Gale
Gavin
and I'm thinking the same after two fights. I was expecting Gavin to be amazingly quick with outstanding boxing skills and so far he isn't anything special. I was expecting a lot more from a guy who won the world championship. Couple that with his lack of power and he's not going to have an easy time of it when he gets moved up. De Gale I was very impressed with second time out. I almost started a De Gale bandwagon thread but it'd probably be the shortest thread ever. I'm definitely a De Gale fan though, don't think he should be booed just because he's got a big mouth. Saunders looks really good. If he can keep that workrate up for twelve rounds and can take a punch he'll do really well.
Re: Whats your opinion of Frankie Gavin?
I really like Gavin. The holes in his defence are the only problem for me, he can deal with his lack of punching power by making up for it with skill. It may not take him to world level but he has a decent future.
Saunders is the gem for me. I can't believe how disciplined he is for a 19 year old with only 2 pro fights on his record.

;D;D No wait, he was being serious:-\
Re: Whats your opinion of Frankie Gavin?
What's up with the glasses Farnell wears anyway? Those frames just scream "mental illness" to me. He had them on again in the second fight so it wasn't just for a bet the first time.

Farnell certainly never came across as the brightest guy when fighting.
Good fighter to watch though.
Re: Whats your opinion of Frankie Gavin?
I agree with the majority of the posts on this thread that it's simply too early to judge him, he's technically a brilliant fighter, definately agree that power is something he neds to work on. I think it will come though, he's still young, and masses of power is not what's reuired in the amateur game. I think when he learns to plant his feet a bit better and gains strength naturally with age his punch power will increase and compliment his excllent technique well, for my money he's better the degale, saunders is on another level altogether though. He's going to be fantastic, helps having a first rate trainer in Jimmy Tibbs too, really world class for me.
