In order to raise money for HIV and AIDS charities, Evander Holyfield will fight in Ethiopia in July.
The iconic four-time world heavyweight champion will take on local Sammy Retta and organisers hope that the event could raise $10m.
"I continue to strive to be the very best but what got me to come here is the AIDS," Holyfield told reporters in Addis Ababa late on Tuesday.
"If we don't find a cure to this, we'll be extinct."
Everton Boland, chief executive of promoters Golden Globe, declined to talk about the fighters' purses.
"If you want to talk about money, we ain't up to that part yet - ain't no boxer fighting for free."

Evander Holyfield Will Get Title Fight This September Says His Manager
"The September bout could either be against Nikolai Valuev or some other fighter, but it will definitely be against a world champion," Sanders said Tuesday.
As fans know, the colossal Valuev meets Ruslan Chagaev, the only man to have ever beaten him, on May 30th in a rematch. Should the huge Russian win it's possible he could wind up boxing Evander in a part-two of that rivalry in September. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but Sanders is sure Holyfield will be in with a reigning world champion next time out. And though most fans wish Holyfield would call it quits on a truly great career - the close loss he suffered at the hands of Valuev late last year aside - this is not going to happen.
Speaking of retirement, Holyfield said he hasn't even been thinking about hanging up his gloves, at all.
"It [retirement] never even crossed my mind," Holyfield said recently. "In fact, it [calls for his retirement] reminded me of 1992 when I lost a title and came back to reclaim it. I'll show the world how to be a champion at this age."
Due to the way he pushed Valuev all the way last December (in what was a dreadfully dull fight with little real action, the truth be known), it's easy to understand why Holyfield is not thinking about walking into the sunset. We all know how stubborn "The Warrior" is, and that had he been beaten up convincingly against Valuev he still would have likely fought on.
Coming within a whisker of making history as the oldest heavyweight champion of all-time as he did instead, of course the 42-10(27) legend is going to try again. And it seems he will get his chance in September!

Yea.He wants to keep busy for his planned Sep title shot.
As bad as his fight with Valuev was,I thought he deserved the win!
Re: Holyfield to fight in Ethiopia
Fuck me, what is he gonna do? Show them how to put a sheath on?

Re: Holyfield to fight in Ethiopia
Well that is a good thing for him to do, really it is. I just read a chapter in a book about Ethiopa and how it was picked on by the Italians in WWII and then fought back, it was very interesting as at the time it was the only African country controlled and run by blacks. I never knew that, never would have guessed.
So good for Holyfield for doing some humanatarian work even if he is just in it for the money and Ethiopa is about the only place that would care for a Holyfield fight at the moment. Though to be fair he did beat Valuev, he really did and he didn't have to look good to do so.

Re: Holyfield to fight in Ethiopia
It's sad this guy doesn't have anything else to do. Not only should holyfield not be fighting anyone, anyone that fights him is just as sad.
Re: Holyfield to fight in Ethiopia
Where are they going to eat? Willl this be co-headlined by a Feed the Children concert so they'll have some grub to munch on?;D
I wish Holyfield would retire already; the guy has nothing to prove and he got robbed in the fight with Chewbacca:rolleyes:
Re: Holyfield to fight in Ethiopia
Any ideas where we can watch it?
I'm not sure whats worse the fact that he is still fighting or that i still want to see it.
