Question on fractures,sprains ??
Just thought I would ask a few that have experience dealing with contact injuries and such. This is not fight related at all and my first instinct is to say,If I'm uncertain...get to the Doctor and run an x-ray but any info you chaps might offer would be greatly appreciated....ok..dont laugh, this one is a bit odd, bear with me.
On Wednesday I had literal run in with a 100 lb+ dog running full throttle into my right shin.He had broken out of a fenced area out at work and was going for the main gate into busy traffic.....well......I stepped in front of him and instead of breaking off he lowered his head and went for all Mike Singletary on me.Well,he stopped and turned back,I stayed up and the pain was instant.Nothing sharp, nothing snapped just a dull harsh pain. The swelling and bruising were rapid in the middle of shin.I iced it and elevated it Thursday and Friday and the swelling reduced but it remains numb with mass bruising in a small area....I'm walking fine,no problems but Saturday and This A.M I have a small sharp pain, not throbbing but just enough to be noticable...comes and goes when walking or sitting idle.Took my boot off last night, and had swelling that subsided in a couple of hours.
Anyway, this has to be one of the oddest posts Ive put up,but I just thought I'd ask....Can hairline fractures get worse? What are some signs?.Anything that one should look for.I know its not broken....Is numbness common on an impact area...not alot of muscle on the frontal portion of lower legs.Again,I'm sure an x-ray would answer it all but cannot do anything until Monday A.M.Again,Thanks for any help.....and if you ever have a hard charging rott mix coming yourway.....MOVE!!:-X
Re: Question on fractures,sprains ??
I remember getting cross checked on my shin in hockey, and we weren't wearing pads either. I got a nasty bruise out if and it felt numb too. I did what you're doing now and eventually it went away. Sprains are different story.
I doubt that it's anything serious in your case, but you should still have it checked out tomorrow. If it's not swollen you might want to put a heating pad around it, there are also creams/gels that help the blood circulate where you put it on. Arnica can also help the bruise disappear faster and help with healing.

Thanks.Seems as the days gone, its developed more of a constant sharp pain, throbbing, fooking left side of foot is ugly purple and impact point raised up huge & numb.Oddly, when Im up and about not so bad...but when idle it comes on badly, when elevated toes tingly.Might have pinched a nerve but will see what happens. Thanks again
Re: Question on fractures,sprains ??
Damn, I hope you feel better soon bro.
Re: Question on fractures,sprains ??
Get it checked out if you can mate, don't do what I did thinking it will all be right and end up with a stuffed up wrist (or in your case shin). I should post a pic up of what my wrist looks like now, not great :-\
Re: Question on fractures,sprains ??
Could be a number of things. Get it checked out.
Re: Question on fractures,sprains ??
Good luck at the doc bro. That's the way to go. Report back if you can, would appreciate knowin the feedback for future reference.
Re: Question on fractures,sprains ??
Spicoli, how did you know it's a hairline fracture, only x-rays can tell, if not done, well we are just guessing.
A thorough medical history and physical exam by a physician provides enough information to determine if further testing is necessary.
What will be the harm in getting x-ray? It could be a Linear Fracture instead. Linear fracture runs parallel to the bone's axis or direction of the bone's shaft.
Your Tibia needs rest to provide healing instead of supporting heavy load of your body, casting can also be done or just plain rest.
Re: Question on fractures,sprains ??
Well, went in yesterday to the urgent care local.Have to love those 5 hour waits lol.Said we had some blod clotting, most probable deep bone bruising and an infection, hence the increasing biting pain & reddening.Sent out with antibiotics and too stay off,ice and elevate. No breaks, said prob not a fracture because able to walk around so much ...(huh??)....we're going to shoot own x-ray at work today but I didn't say that.Again, thanks alot for the input fellas, much appreciated.
