Looking at becoming a qualified lifeguard..
Okay I was speaking to a friend who I haven't seen for a while recently and he told me he works at the local swimming baths and he's a qualified lifeguard. He just sits on that chair all day looking at women's asses in bikini's while blowing a whistle every half hour or so telling people to stop running by the side of the pool. And he gets great cash for it. He's been there like 4 months and has never seen anybody drown etc.
So I decided to investigate on what he told me and what he said of it being simple to become a qualified lifeguard. After I was on the website I seen that It's a 4 day course which costs £200 and at the end of it you're qualified and free to apply to work. The nearest training centre is only like a 10 minute drive from my house. Obviously you have to pass a test on it etc but it seems easy enough (Especially If I know this guy can pass). He got the qualification and is now working at a pool by my home having boner time 8 hours a day.
To be honest my job now isn't great, the cash is good though. However I can still keep the job now and just reduce my hours and do this as well to earn extra cash. There are a number of pool's round my area so I should get a job once qualified and there's a new leisure centre being built by my home so I could apply there also.
I don't know if you realise but I'm taking a year out of school and then applying to join the police or to do a paramedic training course. It will also look good on my application for BOTH of those if I'm a qualified lifeguard which is an added bonus.
What do you all think should I go for it ? The £200 training fee isn't an issue by the way I've got that right now.

;D For some reason this made me laugh
Go for it, why not. Maybe find out how likely it is that you'll get a job after you get qualified but if it looks likely why not.
You looking at police or paramedic as your full time for the future type career?
Re: Looking at becoming a qualified lifeguard..
Might be a good opportunity to man up and finally take off those water wings? :dontknow:
lol go for it I say, sounds like a cool job.

Yeah. Funnily enough my Dad is a sergeant in the Police now and was a Paramedic before that.
I seen a Paramedic 2 year course online at the University of Liverpool (Diploma of Higher Education in Paramedic studies) which looks awesome. You come out a qualified Paramedic practioner and the university put you on placement at a hospital and help you gain work once you finish the course. Another bonus is you normally you have to pay for University courses but as this is funded by the NHS (National Health Service in Britain) its free. Considering its £6,000 a year I'll be saving a student loan of £12,000.
It's one or the other basically. I'm just going to weigh up my options over the next year while gaining as much work experience as I can including voluntary work. I've already got voluntary work at a local police station lined up in a few months.
Re: Looking at becoming a qualified lifeguard..
you'll get to see girls in bikini and maybe even save them with cpr, i say go for it! your going to get so laid! ;D
this falls under my cool job list:
bartender
dj
lifeguard
all get laid all the time ;D
Re: Looking at becoming a qualified lifeguard..
around where i live, near the beaches, it's trendy to be a lifeguard for the reasons you mentioned.. but seriously, at the beach they really work their asses off and save plenty of people a day..
i'd say go for it, but consider the title "LIFE" guard.. you're dealing with peoples lives here and regardless of staring at girls you're still taking a HUGE responsibility on. Would you want your brother/sister/cousin to drown because the life guard took the job to stare at women while they were drowning?
go for it, but understand the responsibilities along with it.

Re: Looking at becoming a qualified lifeguard..
True story. Well, I read it on a website, but think it's true. The Hoff. actually saved a person on a beach in real life, years after the show stopped running. Apparanty the joke around hollywood was, "Yea, he saved em. He's freakin awesome! His hair wasn't even wet when he came out of the water either."

Maybe in America mate but I know a fair few life guards in the UK and they definetly don't get laid all the time/look like they're off baywatch etc... ;)
You should go for it Lefty, if you're wanting to work in the fitness industry it's a very useful qualifcation to have as an add on to your training qualifications and even if you just want to be a life guard there are loads of jobs.
Every time I look for a leisure job the majority of the stuff I see are mostly for a lifeguard or for often a gym instructor preferably with a life guard certificate just incase.

They do literally spend most of their time sitting! If it's working in a public pool that is.
In my opinion you have to be even more switched on though, you don't want to let your mind go to sleep because you think nothing will happen.
Lefty you should also consider getting a swim teacher certificate, most pools don't just want a life guard and the ones that do would obviously pick the guy who had both certificates over the the guy with only one. ;)
Re: Looking at becoming a qualified lifeguard..
Sounds a bit boring to me. Fair enough for a while, but a career lifeguard. Oh dear...! ;D
