Sugar Ray Robinson VS Pacman
You guys asked for it, now you guys have it. A poster (Pac fan boy) said in the Pernell Whittaker thread comparing his accomplishments to Pacmans was that Pernell Whittaker was like Roy Jones Jr. that never lived up to his abilities while Pacman is or going to lived up to Sugar Ray Robinson or beginning to lived up to SRR.
Since a Pacman fan uttered Pacquiao and SRR in the same sentence we now come to this discussion. Lets have it. Who would win in a welterweight match if both were in their prime?
Pacman would be a welterweight in Sugar Ray Robinson's day. Since they had same day weigh ins at Robinson's time and Pacman fought Hatton at 148 on fight night, he would need to drop only a pound to make the welterweight limit and just go into the ring at 147. Both would fight at 147 on fight night. So it's a fair match weight wise. And since we are going by SRR time period for weigh ins, I'll be nice and instead go by the modern period of only the maximum 12 rounds instead of 15.
So who wins in the mythical matchup? (BTW, if Pac fans have started to compared Pac's resume to Sugar Ray, it would be a matter of time before they speculate who would win in a mythical matchup. So they brought it upon themselves that this thread was made.)
Re: Sugar Ray Robinson VS Pacman
Okay. We get it.
You hate Pacquiao.
Re: Sugar Ray Robinson VS Pacman
one pacfan said that, dont assume that pacfans think the same way. and yeah you obviously hate pac and your just here to piss pacfans off... its not working mate! :)
Re: Sugar Ray Robinson VS Pacman
:thumb: good jobs guys, dont let this guy wild yall up.
Re: Sugar Ray Robinson VS Pacman
Bringing this up is only going to piss people off, because not only are you creating another pointless Pac thread (we have the artist formerly known as SaddoBoxer for that), eventually some moron having googled SRR's boxrec profile will say 'I haven't heard of them, he had loads of losses' & will say Pac is better. Which will just piss everyone off because it's clearly crap. I will say I have seen Pac-fans claim that Pac is better than SRR, but I've seen PBF fans claim the same (& I am a PBF fan) & its still bollocks, the guy was THE BEST. If you want I'll find you the thread where someone claims that Joe Calzaghe is better than Sugar Ray, but for the love of all that is holy, leave the pac-fan baiting alone, the forum doesn't need it.
Re: Sugar Ray Robinson VS Pacman
Well look at what thread I found at the bottom of this thread. People called me a liar when I said the Pac fans have been comparing him to Sugar Ray Robinson.
This thread went 5 pages and many posters saying yeah he could equal Sugar Ray. It's only about 21 months old. http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxingfor...-robinson.html
So man up Pacman fans you guys compared Pac's resume to SRR, might as well speculate who wins. Who wins in this mythical matchup?
BTW, I also heard Pacman fans (not at this forum but other places on the internet) say that Sugar Ray is the less accomplished fighter saying that he only won at 2 weight classes at welterweight and middleweight while Pacman won 4 lineal weight titles and fought at many more weight classes. They always try to shove the 4 lineal weight titles in people's faces and say SRR was the inferior fighter.
SO might as well man up if you have threads that goes 5 pages on this forum comparing the 2 resumes. Might as well speculate who wins.

You know what, I give you credit, you found a pac-fan who's one of the board's mods saying Pac is better. However, all but 2 of the posters on that thread say SRR is better, including Rains who has posted above. It's clear anyone who says Pac would have beaten SRR just has little knowledge of the sport. But, Pacquiao isn't the only fighter with fans like that, I remember a Cotto fan claiming Cotto as the best welter in history or Calzaghe fans claiming he's the g.o.a.t.
I'll admit a lot of Pac-fans do go on a bit much & do way overrate him at times, but if it bothers you that much just put em on your ignore list

LOL. I started that thread because of that article I've found. After some thorough discussions with co-pacfans, I ultimately admitted there that he has a long way to go before surpassing or even equalling robinson.
So where's the problem there?
Question is, if Pac destroys Mayweather, Cotto and Mosley (which is indeed a gargantuan task), would he be in the same breathe as Robinson? Or would we always say that no matter what Pac would do or whatever is his accomplishments, he would never be in equal standing with Robinson?
I guess as true boxing fans, we need to be open-minded with the possibility that a modern day boxer may be as great as the boxers of old.:cool::cool:
Or is it really wrong to compare Pac and Robinson? This is boxing talk. Hypothetical match-ups are usually done here. I see no problem with discussing and comparing great fighters.

SaddoBoxer is dead... Don't ever mention his name again...;D But to be fair with that guy, I didn't notice him posting about SRR... ;D

Those over the top fans who compare weight classes of today and the ones SRR had to deal with are showing their ignorance. SRR to achieve 4 lineal titles would have had to fight at 147, 160, 175, and heavyweight as there were only 8 weight classes then. Now we have 17.
