Left hook !- Palm down, or palm facing?
When you make contact with a left hook should it be Palm facing down or palm facing you.
Im completly confused by how to land it, and in the gym i think ive injured my hand slightly simply because im landing it wrong.
BTW im new to boxing ! 2 weeks infact.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Re: Left hook !- Palm down, or palm facing?
I think that maybe you're trying to hit the bag too hard. In the beginning you just need to build a good foundation of good posture, and good technique.
Neither way is wrong when throwing the hook, it just depends on your preference and what works best for you. You can throw them palms in, or turn it over (palm-down). Just work on proper posture, and getting the proper mechanics down (your trainer should teach you this).
Re: Left hook !- Palm down, or palm facing?
Yh iv been working on technique in the mirror and shadowboxing.
Im working on shifting my weight and overall technique and after ive mastered this will my power really start to come.
Thanks for your advice
Re: Left hook !- Palm down, or palm facing?
Like what Chris said it doesn't really matter. Personally, I throw it facing down I feel that I'm a stronger puncher doing it like that and I feel my hand is protected also.
Re: Left hook !- Palm down, or palm facing?
I always preferred throwing a hook with the palm inward, but as the guys say it comes to preference. The shoulder joint isn't in as strong a position with the palm down though, but again it will strengthen up accordingly.
Always good to study some kinisiology which is the relevance of muscles to skeletal movement, every little helps so a good weights instructor can advise on which angles might be stronger too.
Good luck !
