Re: The WBA is garbage #877
So Marcos Maidana and Victor Ortiz just fought for the interim version of the same title that Maidana fought for (and lost) in February. AND Maidana was the mandatory.
Was there any way that Andriy Kotelnik could have prevented the slimy WBA from creating an interim version of his title.
He now shares the WBA title with the man he beat for the WBA title, in his last fight!
The WBA makes me want to puke.
Re: The WBA is garbage #877
jeah if he paid them double the sanctioning fees he may have been able to avoid it...the only good thing these bodies are good for is getting the fighters some exposure to the general public I guess cause they hear champion and they're more likely to watch or follow...who the f knows
Re: The WBA is garbage #877
That really is pathetic. Shouldn't the topic read:
Re: The WBA is garbage #877, 878, and 879.

You're right; they all are ruining boxing. However, I think the WBA deserves special attention. At least the other alphabet gangs try to maintain an image of integrity; whereas the WBA could care less.

From Dan Rafael's Score Card:
"And now a quick word about the bogus title at stake. Naturally, it was a WBA interim belt because the WBA apparently won't be content until it gives out at least two belts in every division. Kotelnik, who beat Maidana in February, owns the title. He'll defend it again July 18 against Amir Khan. But that didn't stop the WBA from sanctioning this for an interim title after a little sweet-talking from Ortiz promoter Golden Boy. The funny thing is that Maidana, as the winner, isn't even next in line to fight the Kotelnik-Khan winner as interim titlists are supposed to be. That so-called honor goes to Dmitriy Salita, a great kid but a bogus No. 1 contender."
