Is Manny Pacquiao Bad For Boxing?
Manny "Pacman" Pacquaio has greatly divided the boxing community into different factions. Those for him and against him. Many of those fans in his camp think he's the greatest thing since slice bread. And then there are those fans that just don't like him for whatever reason.
This is a serious question because of many boxing fans have called Manny Pacquiao a pussy and coward for wanting to fight Cotto at a catchweight, which would be his first. To be fair I never considered the Oscar fight a catchweight because you can't expect someone to jump 3 weight classes from 135 to fight you when you called him out and it was at the 147 ww limit. So there are endless discussions about the Pacman for or against him in every boxing forum.
So is Manny Pacquiao bad for boxing? Would boxing be better if Manny Pacquiao never picked up the sport?
Discuss.

NO
Re: Is Manny Pacquiao Bad For Boxing?
Always going to be fans and haters of a fighter. I started liking Pac after the Diaz and De La Hoya fights; never disliked him but wasn't pleased JMM lost twice to him; so I'm not really a fanboy.
Personally I can't help but think he is an absolute asset to the game. When he climbs through those ropes that is one serious dude and is worth paying $$$ to watch{which is saying something} This 143 Cotto thing is f#cked tbh, but isn't it his promoter really who's trying to do this? And if Cotto and his charge take the fight just for the $$$ at a detrimental weight, then maybe they are bad for boxing. I can think of alot worse for boxing than Manny imo.

Certainly not. He is not at all bad for boxing. Anyone who is as popular as Manny can only be good for the sport. The problem is he should either stick to his weight classes or move up to fight other people where they belong.
Re: Is Manny Pacquiao Bad For Boxing?
I think his fans are worse for the sport than he is. What I dont like about Manny is his need to make his opponents boil down to a weight where they will be ineffective.

"Is Manny bad for boxing?" Lmfao! If he is then Mayweather is 10x worse.
Re: Is Manny Pacquiao Bad For Boxing?
Wasn't there a section just for Manny for people to post??
The nuthuggers and haters are both equally annoying
Re: Is Manny Pacquiao Bad For Boxing?
Meh, the 143 thing is not even close to confirmed. Otherwise yes clearly he's been bad for boxing. :vd:
Re: Is Manny Pacquiao Bad For Boxing?
What a ridiculous, trolling thread.
Yes, a likeable, marketable, exciting, extremely popular fighter with massive mainstream appeal to both hardcore, casual, and less than casual fans is bad for the sport.
After the Pacquiao - Hatton fight, people (and I mean almost everyone) was talking about it on a hockey forum I sometimes post on. That's how popular he is.
Edit: At worst, Pacquiao stimulates discussion amongst hardcore fans (ohhhhhhh, how terrible) and at best he draws in new fans to the sport and increases the profile of boxing in the mainstream sports world.

He's the most popular fighter in the sport, it does nothing good for the forum to have reasonable threads focused on Pacquiao shut away in some board no one wants to read (which also no longer exists). If you don't like it, don't read the threads.

neither are bad for boxing, Manny is an explosive entertaining fighter, and Mayweather is the pure essence of boxing when it comes to skill and technique, what both do in the ring is amazing in their own right, this thread is stupid

it was more aimed at the pointlessness to the thread, when they are this quality threads and some of the others that have been posted recently, id rather not see them

I don't disagree with your assessment of this thread. I was just trying to address the issue of the Pac board.
Re: Is Manny Pacquiao Bad For Boxing?
This can't be a serious question. Love him or hate him. Catchweight or Welterweight. Pacquiao is exciting and a big draw for the casual watchers. He pulls a whole country to boxing. He may even be a top 5 all time draw.
