Has a fighter ever been thrown out of the Hall of Fame?
Just wandering if it's possible, or even has ever happened that a boxer could get thrown out of the Hall of Fame for serious criminal activity, bringing boxing into disrepute or something?
Has it ever happened, could it happen, or once you are in there, even if you turn out to be a serial child killer would you remain in there no matter what?
Re: Has a fighter ever been thrown out of the Hall of Fame?
if this kind of thing would happen, the first nominee would be Leon Spinks :-)
this man defeated Ali and just turned to be a journeyman
now the question is; is this man inducted to HOF ? :-)
but this kind of thing cannot happen, you are remembered for what you accomplished in the past...and no one would change that.

Never heard of this happening.
Re: Has a fighter ever been thrown out of the Hall of Fame?
What you do on the outside has nothing to do with what you accomplished inside a ring

Beg to differ... if Hitler was a great boxer before the holocaust and was voted in, I think he is getting thrown out. Just sayin
Think there are limitations, if the crime was severe enough I don't think any sport wants to tarnish there image, anything can happen if the public outcry is loud enough

LOL, this is boxing, and Jose Sulaiman is in there, and you could not get a bigger criminal than El Presidente!* I reckon Gilberto Mendoza will be next...
Then there is Bob Lee**.
Frank Wa.... actually I am not going there BBC NEWS | UK | England | Norfolk | Promoter wins boxing libel case
*Allegedly, of course.
** No need for allegedly there, the man is a proven criminal!
Re: Has a fighter ever been thrown out of the Hall of Fame?
there's already two murderers in the IBHOF, one convicted the other not, Don King and Carlos Monzon, countless drug addicts, Whitaker, Leonard, Gomez, Pryor, etc. nuff said
Re: Has a fighter ever been thrown out of the Hall of Fame?
What if a boxer turned out to be like Gary Glitter though, would they stay in, or would they booted?
I guess a more likely scenario would be has there ever been a fighter who clearly SHOULD be in the HOF but for serious misdemenours outside of boxing he was NEVER put in?
Re: Has a fighter ever been thrown out of the Hall of Fame?
I think the only way it might happen is if a fighter currently in the hall came forward saying that he was regularly juiced up for fights, had willing taking bribes & thrown fights, or used illegal wraps or something for his fights...

I am a bit surprised here, as far as I know his history, Hitler was an artist and got thrown out of the arts school but I've never heard anything that suggests that he was involved in boxing. Are you sure of that?

Half the boxers in the Hall of Fame probably have some sort of criminal records. A lot of early boxers were from the rough and tumble crowd. Rocky Graziano comes to mind, though he ain't that early. But the most serious crime I can think of in recent by a hall of fame fighter is Carlos Monzon tossing his lover off a balconey to her death. He was in a cranky mood that night.
